National Final of the 2017 Plain English Speaking Award
Principals/Directors, Year 7−10 and VCE English Teachers, VCAL Literacy Teachers, Public Speaking and Debating Coordinators
All students and teachers are invited to attend the 2017 National Final of the
Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) on Monday 14 August.
PESA is a public-speaking competition for students aged 15 to 18 years, and provides an excellent opportunity for young people to build self-confidence and talk about topics and issues they are passionate about.
Seven of Australia’s brightest students from across the country will demonstrate their outstanding skill in public speaking, speechwriting and research at the National Final.
This year marks the national competition’s 40th anniversary. PESA has a rich history of discovering Australia’s best orators, writers and entertainers. Inaugural 1977 winner
Dr. Mary-Rose McLaren, will be returning to the NGV this year to adjudicate the National Awards.
The winner of the National PESA competition secures a place at the English Speaking Union’s International Public Speaking Competition (IPSC) in London, one of the world’s largest public speaking competitions. IPSC attracts more than 50,000 students from 48 countries across the globe.
