Early Years Exchange

The Early Years Exchange is an online resource designed to assist early childhood professionals to implement and embed the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) in their practice.

This 14th edition focuses on assessment for children's learning and development and includes:

  • three videos featured in the Babies and toddlers: Amazing learners resource. These videos were developed by the VCAA in collaboration with Anne Stonehouse, AM and were filmed at Gowrie Victoria, Docklands. The focus is on babies and toddlers learning ‘about me’, ‘about others’ and ‘about my world’
  • snapshots of practice in a playgroup setting using a Child Involvement Scale, a maternal and child health (MCH) service mapping the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework outcomes to the Key Ages and Stages Framework and a bush playgroup profile at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne.
  • interviews with early childhood academics and professionals in MCH and midwifery services
  • Embedded Literacy Experiences in the Curriculum for Babies and Toddlers resource, developed by Gowrie Victoria, Docklands in consultation with Anne Stonehouse.

This 13th edition focuses on assessment for children's learning and development and includes:

  • an interview with Professor Collette Tayler, from the University of Melbourne, talking about how early childhood professionals use the National Quality Framework to make a difference to children's learning
  • interviews with early childhood professionals outlining their approaches to assessment for children's learning and development
  • practitioner snapshots of evidence that demonstrates literacy and the link between drawing and emerging writing.

 

Guest Appearance – Professor Collette Tayler

Professor Collette Tayler, from the University of Melbourne, talks about how early childhood professionals use the National Quality Framework to make a difference to children's learning.

This 12th edition focuses on supporting children's transitions and includes:

  • current Australian research about school transition practices
  • resources on daily transitions for young children and the importance of respectful relationships and responsive engagement
  • examples of how early childhood settings and schools work with families and each other to support continuity of learning when children start school.

 

Guest Appearance – Professor Sue Dockett

Professor Dockett, from Charles Sturt University, talks about transition to school and the opportunities, experiences and perceptions of all involved.

Note: This 11th edition of the Early Years Exchange appears in a new format.  It is now published as web pages.

This eleventh edition provides information for early childhood professionals about:

  • children's wellbeing and involvement as two important qualities in learning experiences
  • early childhood practices in assessment for learning
  • early childhood professionals talking about leading and supporting implementation of the VEYLDF
  • mapping the VEYLDF Learning and Development Outcomes to the AusVELS.

 

Guest Appearance – Professor Dr Ferre Laevers

Professor Dr Laevers  is a Belgian early childhood expert. In this interview he talks about observing and understanding children's levels of wellbeing and how to create powerful environments to support and improve children's wellbeing and involvement.
