Schools conduct their own competition and select a maximum of two students to go on to the regional finals.

Regional Finals

There are up to 23 Regional Finals held from Monday 28 May to Friday 8 June 2018 (inclusive).

All Regional Finals start at 9.30am or 10am. The finish time will depend on the number of students competing however as a guide expect the competition to conclude by 12.30 - 1pm.

State Final

The PESA 2018 state final will take place on Wednesday 25 July 2018 at Treasury Theatre.

National Finals

The National Plain English Speaking Award final will take place in Darwin, Northern Territory on Monday 13 August 2018.

  • Regional Finalists – certificate of participation
  • State Semi-finalists – certificate, Plain English Speaking Award lapel badge
  • State Finalists – certificate, Plain English Speaking Award lapel badge and book voucher. All book vouchers are generously sponsored but the English Speaking Union (Victorian Branch).
  • State Winner – certificate, Plain English Speaking Award lapel badge, book voucher, personalised trophy for student and perpetual trophy for the student's school. The school trophy is returned at the end of the year. Flights, meals and accommodation are provided for the student representing Victoria to compete in the National Final. Generously sponsored by the Australia Britain Society Foundation and the  Australia Britain Society (Victorian Branch).
  • National Winner - trophy and $5000 to enable them to go to England to represent Australia in the international competition for plain speaking. This $5000 is donated by BBM Youth Support.
