VCE Season of Excellence - Top Acts

Top Acts: Focus On … Theatre Studies

Teachers and students can gain invaluable understanding of the process of creating an exemplary VCE Theatre Studies performance through the Focus On… Theatre Studies short films. The films were created by Top Screen 2017 filmmakers Tom Hughes, Neha Shenvi and Shanon McKenzie, were produced as part of the 2017 VCE Season of Excellence.

Focus On… Theatre Studies explore the artistic development of three students' Top Acts 2017 performances, as well as interviews with their teachers, the VCAA Performing Arts Curriculum Manager, Helen Champion and the 2017 Top Acts Artistic Director, Dan Mitchell. The actors featured in the films are Broderick McDonald from Swinburne Senior Secondary College, Flynn Smeaton from St Michael's Grammar School, and Candice Farrugia-Roberts from Mount Lilydale Mercy College.

Transcripts for the videos will be available on Friday 28 July 2017.

Top Acts: Focus On … Drama is a series of three films that explore the development and process behind three VCE Drama students selected for Top Acts 2016 from their Top Class Drama performances. Made by Top Screen 2016 filmmaker Bridget Webster, the films include interviews with the VCAA Performing Arts Curriculum Manager, the Top Acts Artistic Director, the students and their teachers. These resources offer valuable insight for VCE Drama teachers and students preparing their performance examination.

Top Acts: Focus On … Dance

Top Acts: Focus On … Dance is a series of three films that follow the dancers selected for Top Acts 2015. The films include tips and ideas for VCE and VCE VET Dance teachers and students, interviews with the VCAA Performing Arts Curriculum Manager, VCE Dance and VCE VET Dance Chief Assessors, as well as the student’s full performance.

This wonderful resource made by Top Screen 2015 filmmaker Anna Diacos is available as a free DVD for Victorian schools that offer these subjects. Email Student Events to request your copy (one per school): seasonofexcellence@edumail.vic.gov.au.
