Introducing the curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum Economics and Business curriculum focuses on decision-making in relation to the allocation of resources. This curriculum covers Levels 5–10.
The underpinning concepts of resource allocation, consumer and financial literacy, work and reasoning and interpretation have been retained from AusVELS. In the Victorian Curriculum, there is the addition of two concepts, these being the business environment and enterprising behaviours and capabilities. The business environment is an essential component of the economy, and integral to students’ overall understanding of the economy and their role within it. Through enterprising behaviours and capabilities, students are encouraged to be adaptable, demonstrate initiative, solve problems and take leadership roles.
