The Curriculum Branch manages the development and supports the implementation of the Victorian curriculum from Prep to Year 12, including VCE studies. The Branch can assist you with questions about:

  • content of VCE studies, Assessment Handbooks and Guides
  • distribution of VCE study designs and related publications
  • the review and implementation of VCE studies including drafts of study designs
  • professional development for VCE studies
  • prescribed texts and works
  • advice on course design
  • advice on school assessment
  • advice on VCE support materials.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) Unit

The VET Unit is contained within the Curriculum Branch.

The Vocational Education and Training Unit manages the recognition arrangements for VCE VET programs and School Based New Apprenticeships within the VCE, including development of new programs, review and maintenance of existing programs, and implementation of Scored Assessment.

The Unit can assist you with questions about:

  • VCE VET programs and School Based New Apprenticeships
  • obtaining program booklets and assessment guides for VCE VET programs
  • implementing VCE VET programs within a school
  • sources of information and support for schools
  • the level of recognition for VCE VET programs in the VCE
  • schools currently offering VCE VET programs
  • professional development for Scored Assessment in VCE VET programs
  • professional development for training package based VCE VET programs
  • processes for approval of new VCE VET programs.

The VCAL Unit is contained within the Curriculum Branch.

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for Years 11 and 12 students. The VCAL gives students practical work-related skills and experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life, learning and work. 

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning Unit manages the development and supports the implementation of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

The unit can assist you with questions about:

  • VCAL curriculum and assessment
  • distribution of VCAL publications
  • review of the VCAL units
  • VCAL quality assurance process
  • professional development for VCAL providers
  • advice on the development of learning programs
  • advice on VCAL eligibility requirements.

The P-10 Curriculum Unit is responsible for the development of curriculum and standards in the compulsory years of schooling (Prep to Year 10). The P-10 Curriculum Unit can assist you with questions about:

  • the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS
  • the Curriculum and Standards Framework (CSF) I
  • support for the VELS and CSF I
  • implementation strategies for the VEL
  • student assessment based on the VELS.
