New and Revised VCE Studies 2005

This supplement contains examination advice and sample materials for revised and reaccredited VCE studies.

In general, sample questions have been supplied where there has been a significant change in the content of the revised study and/or the structure of the examination.

Teachers and students, in preparing for the examination, should use the sample questions as a guide. No answers have been supplied with the sample questions.

Teachers and students should check the relevant study design and assessment handbook to ensure that they have correctly prepared for the examination.

In examination papers where there are optional questions and/or sections, or rules governing use of texts or selection of questions, teachers and students should make sure they are familiar with these rules.

VCE LOTE studies

Sample examination papers have been developed for the reaccredited VCE LOTE Studies. Teachers and students are referred to the VCAA Bulletin No. 12, 2004, Supplement 1 (PDF - 166KB) for a summary of the changes to these studies.

The changes result from the 2003 review of the studies and the reduction of the examinations from 3 hours including 10 minutes reading time to 2 hours plus 15 minutes reading time.It should be noted that the sample examinations are not to be read as complete examinations.

Section 1, Listening and responding, and Section 2, Reading and responding, provide only a limited range of sample questions and are an indication of the nature of the questions likely to appear on an end-of-year examination. Because these sections are incomplete, marks are not indicated for individual questions. On the other hand, Section 3, Writing in the LOTE, is complete and provides five tasks, one for each of the kinds of writing specified in the Study Design.

Note that the asterisks are used on the front page of these sample examinations to indicate that the number of questions in a section may vary from year to year. This variation does not affect the number of marks for a section which will remain constant.
