Review of the VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills Units

This memorandum contains information relating to the review of the VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills units.

This year, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has commenced a review of the VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills units. A VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills Review Panel has been established to undertake this review.

The VCAA has also engaged the services of a contractor to undertake a survey of a number of VCAL providers to determine the appropriateness of the structure and content of the VCAL Literacy Skills units. Findings from this survey will inform the review process.

Work on this review is expected to continue over the next few months. The VCAA expects the revised Curriculum Planning Guide: Literacy and Numeracy Skills Strand to be distributed to providers in 2008 for implementation in 2009.
