Top Screen (VCE Media ) and Top Screen (VCE VET Multimedia) programs
Top Screen 2008
VCE Media and VCE VET Multimedia teachers are advised that Top Screen 2008 will open at the ACMI Cinemas, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 4 March. The Honourable Bronwyn Pike, MP, Minister for Education will launch Top Screen and the VCE Season of Excellence 2008.
Screenings and the education program Plan Aheadwill be presented at 10 am and 12.30 pm on that day. Subsequent screening and education program dates appear below.
VCE Art and VCE Studio Arts teachers are advised that the screenings and programs may be of interest to students completing video, multimedia and film production.
Top Screen runs in tandem with Top Arts which opens at Federation Square on 26 March. Top Designs opens on 10 April at Melbourne Museum.
Top Screen comprises twelve films. Five works by VCE VET Multimedia students will be on display during the opening function and then can be viewed on request. Selected Media design plans will be on display. Selected VCE VET Multimedia design plans can be viewed on request.
Screening and Education Programs
Tuesday 4 March
10 am and 12.30 pm – screenings and programs.
Plan ahead. The success of film making is all in the planning. Hear from State Reviewer Jo Flack about how to use your design plan effectively; gain assistance with film production and pick up assessment criteria tips.
6.30 pm – Launch and screening.
Tuesday 18 March
10 am – Screening plus How did you do it? Panel session with the filmmakers and State
Reviewers - An opportunity to hear about the filmmakers’challenges and accomplishments and ask questions on all aspects of their films.
1:00 pm – Screening only.
Wednesday 16 April
1.00 pm – Screening plus Plan ahead (See above).
Friday 18 April
6 pm – Screening plus How did you do it? Panel session. (See above).
Tuesday 22 April
11 am and 1.00 pm – Screenings only.
Wednesday 23 April
10 am– Screening plus How do I do it? Question and answer session with the State Reviewer: all you’ve wanted to ask about the assessment criteria and requirements for making your production as well as tips on production challenges.
Thursday 24 April
11 am and 1.30 pm – Screenings only.
Tuesday 29 April, Thursday 1 May, Monday 5 May, Thursday 8 May, Friday 9 May

Game On exhibition at ACMI
Teachers are also advised that the exhibition Game On will run at ACMI during Top Screen,
Thursday 6 March until Sunday 13 July.
An action-packed celebration of games culture Game Ontracks the development of videogames from the first computer game to arcade-era hits and will show the very latest from today’s billion dollar industry. With over 125 playable games as well as rarely-seen consoles, controllers and collectables, this is a showcase of game history for all students working on screen-based works or with an interest in games.
