Memorandum to Schools 106/2008
29 October 2008
Change To Metlink Timetable From 9 November
The Department of Transport has advised the VCAA that from Sunday 9 November the timetables for some metropolitan train routes will change.
To avoid the possibility of students arriving late for examinations on 10 November and beyond, could you please encourage any students who might use Melbourne metropolitan public transport to travel to examinations to verify they are using the correct and current transport timetable when making their travel plans. The best way for students to find out exactly how they might be affected is to visit the websites of Connex and Metlink or to call the Metlink call centre on 131 638.
Schools are in the best position to determine the most appropriate method of communicating with VCE students during the examination period, especially their Year 11 students undertaking Unit 3 and 4 studies.
Whatever method of communication your school chooses, the VCAA requests you also have your Chief Supervisor make the following announcement after the collection of all student response material and once the Supervisor is satisfied with the conduct of the examination (refer 5.4.9 in the VCE Examination Manual):
“The VCAA has asked me to advise VCE students that Metlink will be changing timetables on some train routes from Sunday 9 November. If you use public transport and have one or more examinations after 9 November you should check you are using a current and correct timetable to ensure you do not miss the beginning of one of your examinations.
You may now leave the room.”
Please ask Supervisors to make this announcement after each examination from Friday 31 October to Friday 7 November.
If none of your VCE student cohort use the Melbourne public transport system you can of course disregard this advice.
