VCE Design And Technology Teacher Professional Learning At Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum in conjunction with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority presents Teacher Professional Learning to support the Top Designs Exhibition 2008.

The State Reviewer for the School-assessed Task will discuss requirements and assessment criteria for the School-assessed Task, and available resources. Teachers are able to view the Top Designs exhibition prior to hearing from the State Reviewer. A teacher and their student whose work appears in the exhibition will discuss their experiences and how teachers can best assist students in the School-assessed Task.
Marc Pascal, a local Industrial designer will also discuss his approach to product design.

  • 4:45 – 5:30pm Welcome and Introduction to the Museum and the Top Designs Exhibition

  • 2008 School-assessed Task criteria for VCE Design and Technology and available teacher resources

5:30 – 6:15pm

  • 2007 Units 3 and 4 Design and Technology students represented in the exhibition and their teachers (from different materials areas) discuss their experiences of completing the School-assessed Task

6:15 – 7:00pm

  • Designer talk followed by questions
    Marc Pascal studied fine art (painting and printmaking) at the Victorian College of the Arts, and later studied Industrial Design at RMIT.
    Marc has received grants and awards and exhibits his work regularly.
    He currently works as an independent designer and producer working from Melbourne.
    Marc describes himself as ‘an emotive and tactile person, who loves to play with materials colour, and light’. He develops his work in ‘an intuitive way’.

Note: The Top Designs exhibition catalogue will be available for purchase on the evening from the Melbourne Museum shop which closes at 5:00pm. The Top Designs exhibition catalogue is also available from VCAA by mail order. The cost of the catalogue is $20 which includes GST, postage and handling. The catalogue includes a CD-ROM that contains additional resource material such as student folio pages.

The Top Designs Exhibition is open from 10 April – 29 June 2008.
