Memorandum to Schools 37/2008

29 April 2008

National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2008

NAPLAN Test Packages

Delivery of NAPLAN test packages will commence on Wednesday 30 April and conclude on Tuesday 6 May.

Schools that have not received their test package by close of business on Tuesday 6 May should contact the NAPLAN Help Desk on 9225 2322 or 1800 648 637, or email vcaa.naplan.help@edumail.vic.gov.au

The number of test booklets and stimulus materials included in the package is based on the pre-enrolment and census data provided for each year level. Extra copies of all materials are provided to allow for new enrolments. The Packing Slip should be used to check that the correct quantity of materials has been provided.

Quantities of test booklets and stimulus materials should be checked upon arrival at the school using the clear side panel of the tamper-evident packaging. If there are insufficient quantities of any materials, schools should complete the Request for Extra Materials form in the Test Administration Handbook and fax it to the VCAA on (03) 9225 2324 as soon as possible. An electronic version of the form is also available at: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/schooladmin/forms/aim/naplan.html .

Requests for extra materials must be received by Friday 9 May 2008 at the latest. Alternatively, extra test materials are available at DEECD regional offices or from Catholic Education Offices, which schools can contact directly.

NAPLAN Test Administration Guides and a Security Log are included in the test packages. The NAPLAN Test Administration Guides are also available on the VCAA website. These guides should be distributed to test supervisors as soon as possible and the Security Log maintained and updated throughout the testing process. The Security Log should be kept at the school for 12 months after the tests, and might be subject to audit by the VCAA.

An information pamphlet for parents is also provided in the test packages. Principals are asked to distribute this pamphlet to parents prior to the testing period. The pamphlet will be available for download in languages other than English on the VCAA website from 5 May 2008.

Security of Test materials

Except during actual test sessions, secure test materials should be maintained in double secure storage. NAPLAN Coordinators should prepare the test booklets for distribution the day before the tests, but under no circumstances should test booklets and other secure materials be distributed to test supervisors until the morning of the tests.

NAPLAN 2009 test dates

The Ministerial Council for Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) has now confirmed that the dates for NAPLAN 2009 tests are 12-14 May 2009.
