Review of the VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills units
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) is undertaking a review of the VCAL Literacy and Numeracy Skills units to ensure that the content of these VCAL units remain relevant and meet the needs of the student cohort.
Two review panels for Literacy Skills units and Numeracy Skills units were established in 2007. The review panels, after consultation with key interest groups have proposed a number of changes. The most significant change is the inclusion of an additional learning outcome (Oracy for Self Expression) in the Oral Communication units. The proposed: Literacy and Numeracy Skills Units are available at the following web address http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcal/review/index.html
The downloadable Literacy and Numeracy Skills Units are an unendorsed draft and are for consultation purposes only.
Sections 1 and 2 of the VCAL Literacy Skills Units have been either updated and/or restructured. These two sections contain general information on the VCAL (Section 1) and the Literacy and Numeracy Skills Strand (Section 2). Section 3, which includes the details on the Literacy Skills units, learning outcomes and elements (formerly known as ‘assessment criteria’), has also been modified. Section 4 contains a list of useful resources.
