Memorandum to Schools 64/2008
24 July 2008
Publication of VCAL results at the end of the school year
In December the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) publishes the following VCAL data in the metropolitan newspapers:
- Number of students enrolled in VCAL, by provider
- Percentage of VCAL units completed, by provider.
There are over 400 providers and over 14,000 students enrolled in VCAL and it is important that these providers and students are recognised. As the VCAL is a senior secondary certificate it also is important that information be published about both the VCE and the VCAL at this time of the year.
Providers that meet one or more of the following criteria may apply to the VCAA to have their organisation’s data withdrawn from the data to be published in December if they are:
- involved in a Department of Education and Early Childhood Development endorsed VCAL re-engagement program within which at least 25% of the school’s total VCAL student enrolments do not attend the school at any time for the delivery of the VCAL program.
- schools responding to the special learning needs of their students by preparing a VCAL learning program that contains VCAL units that will be completed over a number of semesters or years. Specialist schools are an example of a VCAL provider that may meet this criterion.
Providers are reminded that VCAL enrolment data can be changed on the Victorian Assessment Software System (VASS) until Monday 17 November, 2008. However, providers that have students who leave VCAL during the year to take up further education, training or employment will not be eligible to have their data withheld in December.
Providers who meet the criteria and wish to withdraw their VCAL data from publication should contact David Gallagher, VCAL Manager on (03) 9651 4532 or email gallagher.david.j@edumail.vic.gov.au before 17 November, 2008.
