This notice contains information about how the Certificates in General Education for Adults (CGEA) can contribute to the award of the VCAL qualification.
Credit Matrix levels and points have been assigned to a large number of Further Education (FE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) units currently contributing to VCAL. The Credit Matrix has designated some units at an enabling level (EN). These EN units are designed to equip learners with language, literacy, numeracy and learning skills to facilitate participation in post-compulsory education and training.
The VCAA Board has determined that an enabling level unit of competency or module is below the level of complexity of a Victorian senior secondary qualification and that enabling level units of competency or modules will not contribute to the VCAL.
Previously the VCAA determined that 21770 VIC Course in Initial General Education for Adults and 21771 VIC Certificate 1 in General Education Adults (Introductory) made no contribution to the VCAL. However, a number of units of competency/modules, from these certificates, are now rated at level 1 or above (Attachment 1). Therefore, from 2010 the level 1 or above units of competency/modules contained within these two certificates may make a contribution to the award of the VCAL qualification.
Attachment 2 outlines how the CGEA Certificates I, II and III contribute to the VCAL.
