The Victorian Learning and Development Framework, Birth – 8 years

Learning and Development Outcomes linked to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).

The Victorian Framework identifies five Outcomes for all children from birth to eight years:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity (identity)
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world (community)
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing (wellbeing)
  • Children are confident and involved learners (learning)
  • Children are effective communicators (communication).

The tabs below show the link between the outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia and the VELS – learning foci and learning standards. These links can be used to support early childhood professionals to design experiences and opportunities for advancing children’s learning and development.
