
The VCAA Plain English Speaking Award in VictoriaAbout the Plain English Speaking AwardThe Award began in Victoria, Australia, in 1977. In 1978 other states and territories in Australia were invited to join and in a few years all of them were participating. In Victoria, the Plain English Speaking Award is organised and conducted by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). The Australia-Britain Society and a number of private industries have generously sponsored the Award since 1977. The Award provides an excellent opportunity for students to build self-confidence and extend their skills in oral communication, speech writing and research. In Australia each year state and territory committees organise and conduct competitions at school, regional and state levels. State winners then to go the national final which is held in the various states and territories on a rotational basis.
