VCE Season of Excellence

Venue and Program Accessibility Information

    We aim to improve accessibility to all events to people with disabilities and their families and carers. within the VCE Season of Excellence 2012 program. This will include film, visual art and design exhibitions and the performing arts.

    Below is a list of each event detailing accessibility and other services.

    Top Screen

    Thursday 1 March – Wednesday 9 May

    Top Screen is held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Federation Square, Melbourne

     

    Mobility Impairments

    • Wheelchair Icon ACMI and its cinemas has wheelchair access and extra seating on the aisles for guests with special requirements.

    Hearing Impairments

    • Opened Captioning icon There will be a captioned screening at ACMI as part of Season 2012. Bookings open 1 December Please visit the ACMI website for bookings or call ACMI on (03) 8663 2420 after this date.
    • Listening Icon ACMI cinemas are fitted with assistance hearing devices.
    • The Top Screen DVD available in late March will have captions as an option.

    Vision Impairments

    • Large print icon Large Print PDF versions of the Top Screen program will be available once program finalised in mid-February. This can be enlarged to suit your visibility requirements. Please print out a copy before you attend the Screening. Also you can choose the Read Aloud software option to convert the text into spoken word, to hear a description of the short films before you attend.

    Education Program

    • Opening night screening. Be amongst the first people to see Top Screen 2012 and hear the filmmakers in a panel discussion 6 pm – 8.30 pm Thursday 1 March 2012.
    • Screenings plus Plan Ahead – Synopsis: The success of filmmaking is all in the planning. State reviewers discuss how a design plan assists production, includes criteria and assessment tips. Date/time: Thursday 15 March 9.30 am and Tuesday 20 March 10 am.
    • Screening plus How did you do it? – Synopsis: Panel discussion chaired by state reviewer. Join the Top Screen filmmakers to discuss their challenges and successes. Date/time: Thursday 1 March 6 pm; Thursday 22 March 9.30 am and Wednesday 2 May 9.30 am.
    • Screenings plus How do I do it? – Synopsis: Question-and-answer session with state reviewers, assessment and criteria tips and all your queries answered to complete your film. Date/time: Wednesday 28 March 9.30 am and Wednesday 9 May 12 noon.

    Top Class

    Top Class presents eleven concerts by outstanding VCE performing arts students who have completed VCE Dance and VCE VET Drama, Theatre Studies, Music  Performance, Music Investigation and Music Styles. Performances are compered by the Chief Assessors. Participating performers speak at the Drama and Theatre Studies concerts about the preparation of their solo work from the student perspective.

    Top Class Sound features performances of original musical works composed by students undertaking VCE Music Performance, Music Investigation, and Music Style and Composition, who have created original music as part of Unit 3 and 4 Assessment tasks.

    The Top Class concerts run from March to May and are coordinated by the Season’s Production Manager working with Assessors. The majority of concerts are presented in the Melbourne Recital Centre. In 2012 Top Class Sound will be presented at BMW Edge

    Mobility Impairment

    • Wheelchair icon The Melbourne Recital Centre has wheelchair access.
    • The BMW Edge provides an access lift between the floor level and the main entrance. Patrons are advised to part on the 3rd floor of the Federation Square car park which has direct access to this lift.

    • When booking tickets through the Melbourne Recital Box Office you can request seats for good visibility at the concert hall.
    • Large Print icon PDF versions of the Top Class programs will be available here online once confirmed in 2012. These can be enlarged to suit your visibility requirements. Please print out a copy before you attend the performance.

    Online versions of the programs will be available closer to the dates of the concerts and to download and print out in larger print  or to convert into spoken word. Please check back again for these online programs.

    Top Designs

    24 March – 15 July 2012

    Top Designs is held at the Melbourne Museum, Nicholson Street, Carlton. It is planned to continue the described tours for people with Disabilities again in 2012. The program will be confirmed in February, please refer back to this page for updates.

    Mobility Impairments

    • Wheelchair icon The Melbourne Museum has wheelchair access within the museum to get around the exhibition spaces with ease.
    • A variety of seating options within different areas of the exhibition space are available if rest is required.

Also you can choose the Read Aloud software option to convert the text into spoken word.
