Information about the Victorian curriculum for Years F-10 (F is the abbreviation for “Foundation” which is now the common term agreed to by all States and Territories to refer to the first year of school for curriculum design purposes) is provided through three distinct websites that are structured around the timeline for transition to and implementation of the new Australian Curriculum.
The Overview, Support and Resources site provides information, planning resources and support materials for the implementation of the Australian Curriculum in Victoria, including information about the Australian Curriculum/Victorian Essential Learning Standards curriculum framework (AusVELS). This includes advice for schools on links between the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework: Birth to 8 years (VEYLDF) (PDF - 1.7MB) and AusVELS and how the VEYLDF outcomes can be used to inform curriculum planning in the early years of schooling.
In 2012, government and Catholic sector schools will use the VELS website as the source for the mandated Victorian curriculum.
For 2012, the 2013+ AusVELS website will be available to support schools’ planning to implement the AusVELS curriculum framework.
In January 2013, the VELS website will be decommissioned and archived and the 2013+ AusVELS website will become the source for the mandated curriculum for Victorian government and Catholic schools. This website will also be available to all independent schools as a model and resource for the effective implementation of the Australian Curriculum.
In 2013 Government and Catholic sector schools will use AusVELS for curriculum planning, assessment and reporting. This will be the current VELS curriculum with the Learning Focus and Standards for English, Mathematics, Science and History replaced by the respective Australian Curriculum Content Descriptions and Achievement Standards.
Information about the development of the Australian Curriculum is available at the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) website.
