17 December 2001

More than 44,000 students will be celebrating across the State from today when they discover they have graduated from the VCE.

Education Minister Mary Delahunty congratulated the 44,697 students who successfully completed their VCE this year.

"Completing the VCE is no easy feat – it takes hard work and dedication. On behalf of all Victorians, I would like to congratulate this year's VCE graduates on their fantastic achievement," she said.

VCE results should be available on the phone and Internet from 7am today. Students should also receive their results in the mail tomorrow.

Ms Delahunty said 95 per cent of the 46,914 students graduated their VCE.

Ms Delahunty said 96 per cent (23,898) of eligible female students and 94 per cent (20,799) of eligible male students received their VCE.

"The relief and the joy that comes with graduating from the VCE is something these students will not forget. They should all be very proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to the future with plenty of optimism."

Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) Chief Executive Susan Pascoe said it was fantastic to see 14,023 students receiving at least one study score of 40 or higher in 2001.

The VCAA, which is responsible for delivery and assessment in the VCE, is operating a joint VCE results phone/Internet service with the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre.

"Each year, students are working hard to excel in the VCE. This year, a total of 591 students have received at least one perfect study score of 50," Ms Pascoe said.
