VCAA Investigates Possible Exam Security Breach
19 November 2002
The Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) has uncovered a possible security breach in this year's VCE exams.
VCAA Chief Executive Officer Susan Pascoe said investigations to date indicate that the breaches are confined to the Maths Methods, Chemistry, and the Information Processing and Management (IPM) examination papers.
Ms Pascoe confirmed that the authority had been alerted to the possible security breach, and that the VCAA database had indicated anomalies between some students' exam results and other results in those subjects.
"While we are unable to comment further on the investigation at this stage, we can say that our enquiries are centering on a small group of students from a small number of schools who may have had access to questions or papers prior to the exam."
Ms Pascoe said the VCAA conducts a fair examination system to ensure that every student had the same opportunity to do well in the VCE.
"I want to reassure the Victorian education community that the integrity of the VCE exam process will not be jeopardised and that all students who have sat the VCE in good faith, should receive their results by mail on December 17 according to the published timeline."
The investigation into the possible VCE security breaches is continuing.
