Future stars take centre stage at Melbourne Concert Hall
24 April 2002
A selection of the state's finest young performing artists will take centre stage at the Melbourne Concert Hall on May 1 in an inspiring display of VCE talent from Victorian government, independent and Catholic schools.
A sample of 23 outstanding dance, drama and music students who achieved A+ for their 2001 exams will present their performances to the public during Top Acts at the prestigious concert hall, a venue normally preserved for national and international headline acts.
Passionate young artists, many of whom already boast an impressive array of awards and public performances in Victoria and overseas, will strut their stuff before an audience of up to 2000.
Top Acts is part of the annual VCE Season of Excellence, a four-month festival which celebrates the outstanding work of VCE visual and performing arts students with a series of concerts, exhibitions and events.
Minister for Education and Training Lynne Kosky said Top Acts would not be possible without endless hours of dedicated teaching, parenting, rehearsals and lead-up performances.
"What the audience will enjoy is a stunning display of artistic skill and grace by our most talented young performers, but we should not forget about the many people who work behind the scenes to make it all possible," she said.
"Without their commitment, VCE students across the state would not have this wonderful opportunity to perform live on a world-class stage."
Top Acts, Melbourne Concert Hall, Victorian Arts Centre, St Kilda Rd, Melbourne, 7.30pm, Wednesday, 1 May. Tickets available from Ticketmaster: 136 166.
