Bright Future in Top Designs

5 March 2002

Education and Training Minister Lynne Kosky today launched a vibrant exhibition of more than 117 creative works by 113 VCE students from around Victoria at the Melbourne Museum .

The exhibition, entitled Top Designs, is an exemplary collection of student work in the VCE curriculum fields of Media, Design and Technology, Food and Technology, Systems and Technology, and Visual Communication.

Education Minister Lynne Kosky said the 2002 Top Designs collection represented an extraordinary display of talent and creativity.

"It is also a reflection of the immense efforts of teachers, parents and mentors who have guided and encouraged these students through the creative process," Ms Kosky said.

"Without the dedication and support of teachers and parents, our VCE would not be the internationally acclaimed curriculum that it is today."

Top Designs is the first of many VCE showcases open to the Victorian public and launches the VCE Season of Excellence.

The Season of Excellence gives students the opportunity to exhibit and perform in several of Victoria 's most prestigious venues including the Melbourne Museum , the National Gallery of Victoria on Russell, the Melbourne Concert Hall, the Kaleide RMIT Union Theatre and the ABC Iwaki Auditorium.

Ms Kosky said the depth of technical expertise and innovation evident in Top Designs was exciting for Australia 's business and industry sectors.

"They are the ones who in the years ahead, will undoubtedly benefit from the work and dedication of these students," she said.

The VCE Season of Excellence is managed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and represents students from across all secondary education sectors (government, Catholic and independent), including metropolitan and regional schools.
