VCE Students put on a Top Act

14 May 2003

The next generation of Australian artists will take centre stage in Top Acts 2003 - a performance extravaganza at the Melbourne Concert Hall.

More than 20 top dance, drama and music students, who completed VCE last year, will put on a show of their best work in the areas of drama, dance, theatre studies, music performance: group and solo, at 7.30pm on Friday May 16.

Top Acts - part of the VCE Season of Excellence 2003: a four-month festival of outstanding work by VCE students – features selected students who performed in Top Class at the National Theatre and ABC Iwaki Auditorium in March. Each student received exceptionally high grades in their performance examinations at the end of 2002.

Many of the performers are now studying their chosen art form at a tertiary level and some have already entered the professional world.

VCAA chair Professor Kwong Lee Dow said Top Acts was the performance highlight of the VCE year.

"Top Acts has become a significant event on the VCE calendar, not only for students, but for their family, friends, teachers and mentors," Prof Lee Dow said.

"The students' knowledge and ability demonstrated in their particular studies is evidence of the strength of the Victorian Certificate of Education.

"Congratulations to all the performers and producers who have contributed to the success of this year's VCE Season of Excellence performing arts events - Top Class and Top Acts."

Performances in Top Acts include a range of humorous and poignant drama solos and monologues, exhilarating dance pieces, musicians and singers both contemporary and classical, as well as rock bands that will lift the Concert Hall roof!

Top Acts will be held on Friday, May 16 at the Melbourne Concert Hall, St Kilda Road, at 7.30pm. For bookings phone Ticketmaster7: 136 100 or at the door. Admission is $17 adult; $15 concession and $12 group.
