Dr Ken Boston

CEO, Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
(QCA), United Kingdom

Dr Ken Boston became Chief Executive of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in the United Kingdom in September 2002.

Before taking on this role he was Managing Director of Technical and Further Education, and Director-General of Education and Training, in New South Wales, Australia. His previous positions include Director-General of Education in South Australia, and General Manager of Educational Planning and Policy in Victoria.

In 2001 Dr Boston was made an Officer in the Order of Australia, for services to education and training. He is a Fellow and former President of the Australian College of Education, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management .

Dr. Boston will outline the uses of technology in the QCA program of assessment and reporting over the next few years


Sylvia Green

Director of Research Division
Cambridge Assessment

Sylvia Green is Director of the Research Division at Cambridge Assessment. The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) has adopted the name of Cambridge Assessment which is a not-for-profit, non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge. As Europe's largest assessment agency, Cambridge Assessment is highly influential in the development and delivery of assessment throughout the world. The Research Division consists of four research groups: Core Research, Evaluation, Statistics and Digital Assessment. Current research is focussed on issues relating to cognitive processes in assessment, comparability and standards, digital assessment and vocational qualifications.

Sylvia joined Cambridge Assessment as a research officer in 1994 after having taught in Primary, Secondary and Adult Education. She was appointed Head of the Primary Assessment Unit in 1998 and was a senior member of the research team on the Comparability of National Test Standards Over Time Project (QCA funded) and designed and managed the qualitative study into pupils' perceptions of assessment materials.

Sylvia will talk about the challenges and affordances of e-assessment.


Anthony Mackay

Tony is Executive Director of the Incorporated Association of Registered Teachers of Victoria (IARTV) and Director of the Centre for Strategic Educational Thinking (CSET), Melbourne.

Tony is also Senior Fellow, Centre for Applied Educational Research, Faculty of Education, The University of Melbourne; Vice President of the Australian Curriculum Studies Association; Governing Council Member and Think Tank Chair, National College for School Leadership, UK; Consultant Advisor, Department for Education and Skills, UK; Chair, Innovation Unit Strategy Group, UK; OECD Senior Consultant, Schooling for Tomorrow Project; DEMOS International Associate; Visiting Fellow, London Leadership Centre; and Board Member of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI).

Tony is a member of the Board of Directors of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER); a Board Member of the University of Melbourne Faculty of Education; a Committee Member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA); and a Governing Body Member of two Prep to Year 12 Melbourne Schools.

Tony is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators (ACE); a Fellow of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL); a Fellow of the Victorian Division of the Institute of Public Administration, Australia (IPAA); and an honorary ambassador, Australian Republican Movement (ARM).


Prof Geoff Masters

CEO, Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER)

Professor Geoff Masters is CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

He is an international authority in educational measurement and student assessment and has published extensively in these fields. From 1988 to 1998, he played a key role in supporting all Australian States and Territories in their introduction of systemwide assessment programs. He was a member of the national Curriculum and Assessment Committee that oversaw the development of curriculum statements and profiles for Australian schools, and he directed the only national survey of Australian primary students' literacy skills.

During this time, he also chaired the Technical Advisory Committee of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), the Rasch Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association, and the Technical Advisory Group of the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

Although much of his research has been focused on questions of validity and reliability in large-scale tests and surveys, Professor Masters has a special interest in using developments in modern measurement theory to construct improved tools for professional practitioners. He conceptualised and co-authored the widely-acclaimed Assessment Resource Kit (ARK : a series of booklets and videotapes for classroom teachers) and the Developmental Assessment Resource for Teachers (DART: thematic, outcomes-based assessment materials).

He is currently a professorial associate of the University of Melbourne , President of the Asia-Pacific Educational Research Association and President of the Australian College of Educators.


Ken Smith

Director-General
Department of Education and the Arts, Qld
Chair of the Performance, Measurement and Reporting Taskforce

Ken Smith has been the Director-General of the Department of Education since January 2003. His
responsibilities have recently been extended to also include responsibility for the arts.

Mr Smith brings to the Department extensive experience, both in the national arena and on a state
level, in major policy, service and organisational change. Prior to his appointment to Education Queensland, Mr Smith had held the position of Director-General of Employment and Training since February 2001.

Mr Smith has introduced major reforms in the vocational education and training, TAFE and employment systems involving significant improvements in financial and service delivery outcomes.
Prior to heading up Employment and Training, he was Director-General of Families and Disability
Services Queensland. Up until 1996 he was the Director-General of the Queensland Department of
Housing Local Government and Planning.

He has recently been appointed to the position of Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland
in the School of Education and has previously held the position of Adjunct Professor in the School
of Social Work and Social Policy.

Mr Smith has also served as a CEO to a number of Ministerial councils, including the Ministerial
Council for Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs. He was also a member of the Prime Minister’s Youth Pathways Taskforce.


Peter Titmanis

Director, Benchmark & Educational Measurement Unit
Performance, Measurement and Reporting Taskforce

Peter Titmanis is the Director of the Performance Measurement and Reporting Taskforce's Benchmarking and Educational Measurement Unit. The Unit supports the Taskforce in developing and implementing methodologies for nationally comparable reporting of student performances in literacy, numeracy, science, civics and citizenship and information and communication technologies.

Peter has been closely involved with the development and implementation of  Australia 's national assessment strategy since 1997. Previously Peter was a senior officer in the Western Australian Department of Education and Training where his roles included managing the state-wide testing program, the Department's Evaluation Unit and working with a team to develop new accountability policies for school self assessment and reporting. He has also worked as a strategic planner in education as part of an Australian overseas aid program.

Prior to these appointments, Peter was a teacher of physics, chemistry and science in secondary schools and taught in teacher education programs at university.


John Ainley
Research Director
National and International Surveys
ACER

Dr John Ainley is Deputy CEO of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and Research Director of the National and International Surveys Program. Since joining ACER in 1978, Dr Ainley has undertaken a number of policy-oriented research studies for Commonwealth and State education authorities in areas such as the achievements and attitudes to school of students in the primary school years, the social development of students, literacy development in the early school years, and the progress of young people through school, post-secondary education, training and work. He directed an evaluation of the World Bank Global Development Learning Network and coordinated the Australian component of the IEA Second Information Technology in Education Study. He is currently project director of the PMRT national survey of ICT literacy.


Chris Freeman
Manager, Government Projects
ACER

Mr Chris Freeman joined ACER after 20 years experience as a science, mathematics and computing teacher in secondary schools and a number of years with the N.S.W Board of Studies as a curriculum advisor. Mr Freeman was a member of the NSW Board of Studies Curriculum Advisory Panel in the area of Communications and Information Technology and a member of the Catholic Education Commission's Information Technology high-level consultative committee. He was a senior marker of the N.S.W. Computing Studies course and the leader of the Computing Studies Advisory Service. Mr Freeman has been responsible for the carriage of the 2002/2003 National Primary Science Sample Survey. Mr Freeman is currently undertaking doctoral studies in Educational Measurement at Murdoch University .


Julian Fraillon
Research Fellow
ACER


Mr. Fraillon is a Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research. Julian taught psychology, English as a second language, English and mathematics at secondary schools and German and French at primary schools. He has taught English and mathematics in tertiary courses in rural China and Italy . Julian has been a member of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) psychology examination assessment and student verification panels, and authored a Psychology text. Mr Fraillon has been manager of literacy test development for the Literacy and Numeracy National Assessment (LANNA) and the Western Australian Monitoring Standards in Education Arts assessment. He manages the test development for PMRT ICT Literacy project and was principal test developer for the PMRT National Civics Assessment Project .
Juliette Mendelovits
Senior Research Fellow
ACER

Ms Juliette Mendelovits is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research. After graduating with a Masters degree in English literature Ms Mendelovits taught at secondary and tertiary institutions before joining ACER in 1991. Since has worked mainly in literacy and humanities test development. In recent years she has led a team specialising in outcomes-based assessments and directed a number of projects including the Victorian General Achievement Test, the Western Australian Education Department's Monitoring Standards in Education program (English) and a consultancy to the Indonesian National Ministry of Education on curriculum and assessment reform. Ms Mendelovits has worked on the reading literacy component of the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2000 and is a co-author of Reading for Change: Performance and Engagement Across Countries.

Doug McCurry
Head of Humanities and Social Science Test Development Team
ACER

Dr Doug McCurry is the head of the Humanities and Social Science Test Development Team at the Australian Council for Educational research. Doug developed the grading methodology for the National Industry Education Forum's Key Competencies Portfolio Kit between 1998 and 2000.  He reviewed the relationship of Victorian Certificate of Education outcomes and the Key Competencies and made recommendations for the assessment of the Key Competencies to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority in 2001.  He subsequently undertook a project to develop and trial a procedure for whole-school assessment of generic skills between 2002 and 2004.  In 2005 Doug is developing a construct to integrate the Key Competencies, the Employability Skills and the Interdisciplinary Skills of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards for the VCAA.  He is also undertaking a review of the development of notions of generic skills over the last 25 years for the D.E.T. in Victoria .
Robert Cordaiy

Robert Cordaiy commenced his teaching career in 1980 and has taught both primary and secondary students in NSW and the Northern Territory . In 1991 he was seconded to the NSW Department of Education and Training's Information Technology Directorate to work on the OASIS system. Robert was later seconded to the Basic Skills Testing Unit to support the development and implementation of the Basic Skills Test.

In 1996 Robert won the position of Leader, Basic Skills Testing where he developed the Data on Disk software for NSW schools. In 2004 Robert was appointed Chief Education Officer, Contracts Development and Test Administration, overseeing the development and conduct of all the statewide tests in NSW


Dave Wasson

Dave Wasson began his teaching career in 1975, working in a number of secondary schools before becoming a regional consultant and later holding executive positions in schools. In 1994 he was seconded to the Quality Assurance Directorate. He held various Chief Education Officer positions related to quality assurance, corporate performance, school reporting and school reviews, and for two years was Principal of Erina High School.

In 2004 he was appointed Director of the Educational Measurement and School Accountability Directorate with responsibility for supporting school improvement initiatives and ensuring school accountability in the areas of school reviews, annual school reporting, implementation of statewide testing programs and supervising student selection and placement in selective high schools and opportunity classes.


Carmel Richardson
ACER

Carmel Richardson is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research. She taught in secondary schools for more than twenty years, mainly Maths, English and Special Education, before commencing doctoral studies at The University of Melbourne. Carmel 's main research area is in analysing ability-adjusted student achievement data to provide schools and teachers with information to track the learning progress of each student. She analysed the data for the Hong Kong Quality Education Fund (1997-2000) as part of the project to develop Performance Indicators for Measuring Value-added Improvement of Primary and Secondary Students' Academic Performance. Carmel has conducted large-scale multi-level modelling analyses of Victorian final secondary assessments (1994-2000) for all secondary schools in Victoria , Australia . Carmel moved to ACER in 2003, and is now providing detailed ‘within-school' multi-level analyses of Victorian Certificate of Education data at student and class levels for more than one hundred Victorian secondary schools. This work is being extended to primary schools as well as to the junior and middle years in secondary schools. Carmel is Project Director of ACER's Data Interpretation Service.


Margaret Forster
Research Director (Assessment and Reporting)

Margaret Forster is the Research Director of the Assessment and Reporting Research Program at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).Margaret has extensive experience in the area of assessment and reporting and works as a consultant nationally and internationally. She has direct experience in the development of assessment materials and the conceptualisation of assessment programs. She conceptualised and co-authored the first Developmental Assessment Resource for Teachers ( DART English Upper Primary ), and is co-author of the ACER Attitudes and Values Questionnaire , and the Assessment Resource Kit ( ARK ) materials.

Margaret has a particular research interest in the collection and use of achievement data to improve learning. She co-directed the National School English Literacy Survey (NSELS) and co-authored the NSELS report. She has written a number of general research based publications on the reporting of student achievement including A Policy Maker's Guide to International Achievement Studies , and A Policy Maker's Guide to Systemwide Assessment Programs .

At policy level, recent national consultancies on the revision and implementation of assessment and reporting frameworks include work with the Western Australian Curriculum Council, the VCAA and Education Queensland. International consultancies include work for the World Bank Institute, for the Peruvian Ministry of Education, for AusAID in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines , for UNICEF, for the Scottish Executive, for the Hong Kong Curriculum Development Institute, and for the Chilean Ministry of Education.


Karen Benz
NT DEET


Karen Benz has taught in Northern Territory schools for 8 years. She is currently the Project Manager of Literacy Assessment collaborating with urban, rural and remote Indigenous schools across the Northern Territory . As a classroom teacher, Karen has taught from preschool to Year 7 in both Indigenous remote communities and in large urban schools leading assessment and reporting initiatives.


Anna Rerakis
Curriculum Corporation


Anna Rerakis is Curriculum Corporation's Numeracy Item Development Manager. Her responsibilities include collaborating with education systems and contractors in relation to numeracy test item development, planning and delivery of professional development workshops (for teachers and KLA managers) in Test Construction and Item Writing. Prior to joining the Corporation Anna was Senior Project Officer for Mathematics Item Development at the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). Anna also has significant teaching experience in Mathematics both in Australia and overseas where she was required to coordinate and deliver mathematics curriculum conforming to a range of different international curriculum standards.


Harold Dover
Curriculum Corporation


Harold Dover is the Test Logistics and Literacy Assessment Manager in Testing Services at Curriculum Corporation . Harold has an extensive background in teaching, curriculum research and development and assessment across key learning areas. At Curriculum Corporation , Harold is managing test logistics and Literacy item development for the Northern Territory MAP testing. Harold has also worked on system testing in English for the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) as Senior Project Officer in P-10 Assessment.


Peter Jackson
Director – Government Solutions
Pearson Assessments and Testing

In his current role as Director for Government Solutions for Pearson Assessments & Testing (PA&T), Peter Jackson is responsible for working with Government departments, schools and colleges in planning how Pearson businesses can contribute to Government aspirations for the advancement of assessments and testing programmes. Peter is the programme director of the Test Operations Services contract which involves the marking and data collection of the UK 's statutory national key stage tests. This programme involves processing around 24,000 UK and overseas schools and 1,200,000 pupils, and over 7,200,000 tests annually.

Peter has almost 30 years experience in education, having worked as a teacher before becoming involved in curriculum development and assessment at both local and national levels. He has extensive experience as a senior manager in UK secondary schools; as education adviser and inspector for two UK local education authorities; as a Registered Inspector of primary and secondary schools with the UK government's Office for Standards in Education (OfSTED); and as a Principal Officer with the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority (SCAA) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) where he was part of the team responsible for the revision of the National Science Curriculum.

Whilst with SCAA and QCA, Peter's interest and responsibilities focused on national curriculum statutory test development and the delivery of the statutory assessments. He has worked with many leading academics and contributed to numerous UK Government working parties on the use of pupil performance information in promoting teaching and learning.

Graeme Luck

Graeme has broad experience across the school and training sectors in education, and in private industry. As a teacher in Media, Science and Humanities he was involved in curriculum innovation within his school, across Geelong (with GO MEDIA) and at the state level with the Frameworks curriculum initiative.During his period as a video and multimedia producer Graeme worked with a range of industry clients to clarify change objectives and develop tools to skill their workforce.

Most recently as a government policy bureaucrat he has worked on policy development for post compulsory education and new approaches to school area planning.


Marten Koomen
Senior Research Fellow

Marten Koomen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). He works in the team that is implementing the Programme for International Student Assessment ( PISA ) on behalf of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Marten is the leader of the team that designed and implemented the computer-based assessment of science (CBAS) component of PISA . Marten also has other key roles in PISA project that include the development of the international technical standards for PISA, the development of quality monitoring systems for PISA, and the development of the administration systems for PISA. Marten was a secondary school teacher before joining ACER. He taught mathematics and physics and held variety of responsibility positions in schools. Marten has also been involved in a wide range of cross-curricular initiative.


Ron Martin
Research Fellow

Ron Martin has worked on a number of educational assessment and resources projects at an international and national level in recent years including the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the Science Education Assessment and Resources Project (SEAR), Western Australia Monitoring Standards in (science) Education (MSE9) and the Primary Science Assessment Project (PSAP) determining national science standards in Australian schools. Ron's work in PISA has included development of materials suitable for computer-based assessment and an innovative approach to the assessment of attitudes in science-specific areas. In addition, a lengthy career as an educator and administrator in secondary schools, together with a number of years training teachers in science education, adds to his expertise in the education area. Ron's experience in the international development field has included projects in Melanesia involving distance education for the University of Papua New Guinea , education and marketing programs for the PNG Incentive Fund, the monitoring of an Integrated Conservation and Development Program and the establishment of a small-scale, community-based, sustainable forestry industry in PNG. Work in Melanesia has included research into attitudes and education relating to environmental issues.



Graham Hudson
National Business Development Manager

Graham Hudson has over twenty years' experience of implementing and managing large-scale assessments within the UK . His experience covers developing and managing general qualifications since 1983, including the introduction of GCSE examinations in 1988 and the National Curriculum examinations in 1994. Graham worked at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for over three years during which time he ran the external marking and data collection of the Key Stages 2 and 3 tests in England and established a government-funded programme for implementing the use of new technologies in examinations and assessments.

Graham now works for DRS where he has put in place the electronic mark capture and marking of tests for three unitary awarding bodies in the UK capturing over 2.5m candidates' marks in 2005.


Susan Atkins

Susan Atkins is Director Online Initiatives, Curriculum Corporation and responsible for the overall educational quality and design of content for The Learning Federation http://www.thelearningfederation.edu.au/tlf2 , Australia 's first nationally funded schools online content initiative. A leader and recognised expert within the educational multi-media industry. An innovator, competent leader and directorof online education programs and a specialist in online learning, pedagogy, instructional design and the development of educational multimedia, involving national and international teams of experts. She holds overall responsibility for content procurement including, project management, educational design and quality assurance for procurement of online content nationally and internationally. Susan has initiated and coordinated the development and delivery of a variety of interactive science and environmental education programs and has extensive experience in delivery of quality content via the Internet and Satellite Television to remote schools, teachers and students.

Gayl O'Connor

Gayl O'Connor commenced at Curriculum Corporation in July 2004 as the Manager of Science and ICT Item development. She has 8 years experience in the area of assessment of student learning. She has contributed to a range of assessment projects including international and national initiatives. Gayl is also an experienced classroom teacher, and has a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Instructional Technology), a Diploma of Education, and a BSc (Hons) degree majoring in Biology


Rosemary McLoughlin
Team Leader Literacy,
Catholic Education Office Melbourne

With a teaching background in secondary English and ESL, Rose mary has worked with the Catholic Education Office Melbourne since 1986 in a number of roles from general curriculum to her current role as Team Leader, Literacy. In this role she has responsibility for Literacy provision in Catholic schools across Victoria .

Rose mary has made a significant contribution to the wider educational community through her work as Assistant Chief Assessor VCE ESL, a member of the English Setting panel, member of the English VCE Review committee, member of VCE English Text Selection committee, and as a former Senior Fellow with Language Literacy and Arts faculty, University of Melbourne . In 2004, Rose mary was selected as a participant for the UNESCO Education for International Understanding Teacher Training Workshop in Korea .

Rosemary has published articles, presented at numerous conferences and was a series editor for the Cambridge University Press Englishworks text books for Years 7 to 10.

Much of her professional work has focussed on literacy learning and knowledge in secondary years.


Bob Peck , MA DPhil EdD MRACI
Victorian Curriculuim and Assessment Authority

Bob Peck is currently Manager, VCE Examinations, at the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.  His interests include large scale assessment systems, educational measurement and research, and applications of the Rasch model.


Kris Klasen
Department of Education Tasmania

Kris is the Manager of Special Projects (LeAP) at the Tasmanian Department of Education's (DoE) Information Management Branch.

In the mid 90's he was involved in the implementation of the state-wide student management system, SACS. Since then he has managed the development of the DoE Data Warehouse and is involved extensively in project management, representing DoE at state government level.

He has coordinated numerous software development projects at DoE, ranging from corporate to teaching and learning in focus. Kris is currently providing project management, contract management and technical oversight to the Learning Architecture Project (LeAP).


Mr. Paul Edelblut

Mr. Edelblut is an expert in the implementation of large scale formative and summative assessments. He specializes in the areas of writing assessment and automated essay scoring.


Sandy Heldsinger

Sandy Heldsinger has worked in assessment for nearly 10 years and for the past six years has coordinated the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA). She is currently completing an Educational Doctorate under the supervision of Professor David Andric


Stephen Humphry
Department of Education and Training, WA

Steve is the Senior Educational Measurement Officer, Pychometrics with the Department of Education and Training and has just completed PhD in this area under the supervision of Prof David Andrich . His research involved developing a framework for maintaining a common unit in social measurement which is based on the Rasch model, and which draws on research into the role of unit in measurement by David Andrich


Rhondda Kretschmann
Queensland Studies Authority

Rhondda Kretschmann works for the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA), and is the Manager of the Years 3, 5 and 7 Testing Unit. This unit is responsible for the development, marking and analysis of the annual Queensland Years 3, 5 and 7 Literacy and Numeracy Tests. She is a member of the National Measurement Advisory Group, and was a participant in the National benchmark Reading, Writing and Spelling cut-score exercises.

She taught for 20 years in primary schools throughout  Queensland , and worked as an Education Advisor (English) for Education Queensland, and for the Queensland School Curriculum Council as a Senior Project Officer (Literacy) in the testing section, prior to her present position.

She is interested in showing teachers how the test data can be analysed and interpreted at the school level, and practical uses for this information in the classroom

Claire Stanley

Currently Claire is working at the Queensland Studies Authority as the Principal Testing Officer, Numeracy on the Year 3, 5 and 7 Tests. Prior to this position she was a member of the writing team for the Queensland Years 1 to 10 Mathematics syllabus, an educational adviser in mathematics and numeracy and a primary school teacher. Most of her work is in the creation of the numeracy tests however where possible she provides analysis on the data from the tests for Queensland teachers.



Elina Rase

Elina Raso has recently taken up the position of Team Leader, Leadership and School Improvement at the Catholic Education Office Melbourne (CEOM). Her responsibilities include leading a team specialising in initiatives and programs in leadership development and school improvement and coordinating the provision of strategic advice related to Leadership and School Improvement/ Accountability issues in Catholic schools. Elina has broad experience in the development of curriculum initiatives, teacher professional development and program management in Catholic Education. The most recent experience ( 2002-2005) has been the coordination of the CEOM's Literacy Strategy (p-10)



Mark Dulhunty

Mark was previously employed as a research associate in the Assessment Research Centre at the University of Melbourne where he undertook a number of projects involving statistical analyses, data management and psychometric applications. He has also been employed in ground defence roles in the Royal Australian Air Force, including deployment to East Timor (InterFET). In his capacity as a director of EMS, Mark has been involved in the Northern Territory statewide testing program, from managing data to producing student and school reports. Mark has also been involved in the National Assessment Program: Science Literacy (NAP-SL 2006), as well as undertaken consultancy work with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA)



Margaret Wu

Margaret has worked as a psychometrician at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and the University of Melbourne, and also as a private consultant to educational institutions within Australia and abroad. In her capacity as a director of EMS , Margaret has been involved in the Northern Territory statewide testing program, the National Assessment Program: Science Literacy (NAP-SL 2006), and consultancy work at UNESCO, Max Plank Institute, Hong Kong Examination Authority and the Teacher Training Division, Ministry of Education, Malaysia . Margaret also has an interest in Mathematics education, and has contributed to mathematics and problem solving item writing for various projects



Bill Perrin
Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority

Bill Perrin is currently Group Manager, Assessment Planning and Development at the VCAA.In 2004 and 2005 Bill managed a number of projects designed to investigate student responses and marker performance in online examinations and online marking in high stakes environments.  These included online marking of Year 12 examinations and the conduct of trial online Year 12 examinations


Susan O'Shannessy

Susan O'Shannessy is a Project Manager in the VCE Examinations Unit with responsibility for a range of VCE and VCE VET examinations, including the computer based multimedia examination.  Susan has been involved in several online examination trials conducted at VCE level. Prior to joining the VCAA, she managed development and delivery of licensing assessments for the Electrical industry in Victoria. She has experience in research, promotion and program development in VET and local government.
