Survey

As part of the ongoing monitoring of VCE studies, the VCAA is collecting qualitative data about VCE Drama and VCE Theatre Studies. A stakeholder survey is being conducted to obtain feedback from users of the study designs. This information will assist VCAA in determining future directions for the studies. The surveys are located on the index pages for VCE Drama and VCE Theatre Studies on the VCAA website. The surveys can be completed electronically for return by email to: <champion.helen.h@edumail.vic.gov.au> or completed manually and returned by post to Helen Champion, Curriculum Manager – Performing Arts, VCAA, 41 St Andrews Place, East Melbourne, 3002 or by fax to (03) 9651 4324. Completed surveys should be returned by 10 September 2010.

2011: Transition arrangements

The VCE Music Study Design (accredited 2011–2015) replaces the previous VCE Music Study Design (2006–2010). The study has been substantially restructured. A revised VCE Music study will be implemented from 2011. The revised study is comprised of ten units: Music Performance Units 1 to 4, Music Investigation Units 3 and 4 and Music Style and Composition Units 1 to 4.

Information about implementation of the revised VCE Music study and a range of resources to support implementation of learning and teaching programs will be published progressively on the VCAA website. Implementation workshops will be held across the state during Term 3.

Students may enrol in all units of VCE Music or select specific combinations of units that cater for their interests and intended pathways. For Music Performance Units 3 and 4 and Music Investigation Units 3 and 4 students select to perform as a member of a group or as a soloist for the end-of-year performance examination. Students may select the same performance context for both Unit 3 and 4 sequences or may select both contexts in either order.

Satisfactory completion

For Music Performance Units 3 and 4 and Music Investigation Units 3 and 4 students select to perform as a member of a group OR as a soloist for the end-of-year performance examination. The following equivalence rules apply for VCE Music in 2011:

  • Students who have satisfactorily completed Music Performance Units 1 and 2 in 2010 or earlier, cannot count the revised Music Performance Units 1 and 2 towards satisfactory completion in 2011.
  • Students who have satisfactorily completed Music Performance Group Units 3 and 4 in 2010 or earlier, cannot count Music Performance Units 3 and 4 towards satisfactory completion in 2011 where the performance context for the 2011 end-of-year performance examination is as a member of a group.
  • Students who have satisfactorily completed Music Performance Solo Units 3 and 4 in 2010 or earlier, cannot count Music Performance Units 3 and 4 towards satisfactory completion in 2011 where the performance context for the 2011 end-of-year performance examination is as a soloist.
  • Students who have satisfactorily completed Music Performance Group Units 3 and 4 and/or Music Performance Solo Units 3 and 4 in 2010 or earlier are able to count Music Investigation Units 3 and 4 towards satisfactory completion in 2011 where the performance context for the 2011 end-of-year performance examination is as a soloist or as a member of a group.
  • Students who have satisfactorily completed any of Music Styles Units 1 to 4 in 2010 or earlier, will not be able to count the equivalent unit/s in Music Style and Composition towards satisfactory completion in 2011.

Errata

Teachers are advised of the following corrections to the VCE Physical Education Study Design (2011–2014) for implementation in 2011.

On page 29 in Unit 4 Area of Study 2: Performance enhancement and recovery practices, the following point of key knowledge:

  • physiological strategies to enhance recovery such as heat, ice, compression, hyperbaric chambers, massage and sleep

should be replaced with:

  • physiological strategies to enhance recovery including heat, ice, compression, hyperbaric chambers, massage and sleep.

In the ‘Advice for Teachers’ on page 35 the definition of aerobic glycolysis in the glossary of terms:

Aerobic glycolysis – An energy system that relies on the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, in the presence of oxygen to produce energy. Also known as the aerobic energy system and the oxygen system.

should be replaced with:

Aerobic glycolysis – The breakdown of glycogen in the presence of oxygen to produce energy, carbon dioxide, water and heat.

The VCAA requires these changes to be incorporated into the teaching program for VCE Physical Education from 2011.

Enquires about the VCE Physical Education Study Design can be directed to Nerida Matthews, Curriculum Manager, Health and Physical Education on (03) 9651 4444.
