The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (also known as VELS or the Standards) are available at  http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au

The VELS website provides an overview of the new approach to Victorian curriculum from Prep to Year 10. The VELS form the basis for curriculum planning and assessment from Prep to Year 10 in all Victorian schools.

School implementation of the VELS commenced at the beginning of 2006. The Department of Education and Training, Catholic Education Commission of Victoria and governing bodies of independent schools provide guidelines for school implementation. In Government and Catholic schools, teachers will report against English and Mathematics in 2006 with other domains to be reported against in 2007 and 2008.

Throughout 2005 the VCAA undertook a number of projects to validate the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The validation led to refinements, clarification and improvements. Revised standards were published online in December 2005. Visit the VELS website (http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au/) to learn more.
