Student Card of Jesse

At Braybrook College Jesse chose his VCE subjects with a future career in mind. He knew he would like to become a builder but also considered the possibility of doing a music course at the end of VCE.

Jesse completed all four units of the VCE VET Furnishing program, which led to him being offered an apprenticeship in general construction through Victoria University (TAFE). He studied VCE Business Management and Maths Methods in preparation for this career and hopes to have his own business one day.

Looking back on his VCE years he reflects that the most important thing was to get work in on time. ‘Make sure all your work is done on time. Never leave it to the last minute. Once the teachers set some work, try and do it straightaway.’

Jesse has plenty of experience working with wood, having often helped his cousin who is a qualified builder. He also has a lot of experience as a musician, plays several instruments and is in a band at his church. Having made the decision to work in the building and carpentry industries, he will continue with music as a hobby because he really loves it.

At Victoria University he will study in class as well as go out in the field to work. It is very handson and he feels confident that it will prepare him to enter the workforce at the end of the apprenticeship.
