Student Card of Renee

‘When choosing your VCE subjects, follow your dreams and do something you enjoy or something you can see yourself doing in the future’ says Renee, from Shepparton High School.

In her VCE program Renee decided to keep her options open and chose subjects that could potentially lead her on to two very different study and career paths.

‘I started out wanting to do physiotherapy so I incorporated maths and science subjects in my VCE program. But music and singing have always been my passion so I chose Music Solo Performance and Theatre Studies as well.’

Towards the end of her VCE Renee realised that she wanted to follow a musical career path. Despite this she still worked really hard on her maths and chemistry. ‘For me they were a lot harder than music so I put a lot of time into them – reading and memorising to help me understand it all.’

This year Renee will be doing a Bachelor of Music degree at Monash University. Her dream would be to have a career in music as a professional singer. ‘I would like to try and become an accomplished and recognised singer.’

However, she has a back-up plan which is to transfer to a double degree in Music/Education at the end of this year. This would allow her to become a singing and music teacher.
