Industry and Enterprise 2006-2009

Frequently Asked Questions

As published in the VCAA Bulletin, December 05, p.11.

The following FAQs have been prepared in response to questions raised at the VCE Industry and Enterprise implementation workshops during 2005.

  1. What Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) training do students need to undertake?
  2. Response:
Prior to participating in the workplace, all students must have completed the required Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) training. If students are studying Industry and Enterprise with a VET in Schools program, they will undertake the OH&S modules contained in the VET program. If students are only studying Industry and Enterprise then they must complete the required OH&S training from the Department of Education and Training's safe@work program. This includes both the general and industry specific modules. The safe@work program is valid for 12 months. If students have previously completed the safe@work program, they only need to complete the update module. Where a student is working in a different industry to any previous work placement or work experience, they must also complete the relevant industry module for the industry they will be working in. VCAL students enrolled in Industry and Enterprise and a nationally recognised VET certificate must undertake the OH&S training in the module/unit of competence relevant to their placement before commencing work placement.
  3. Which form is used when sending Industry and Enterprise students on work placement?
  4. Response:
The structured workplace learning form is to be completed before students commence their work placement.
  5. What work arrangements are suitable for Industry and Enterprise work placements?
  6. Response:
Appropriate arrangements for work placement include:
    • structured workplace learning arrangements which complement a VCE, VCE VET or VCAL program of study
    • student-initiated enterprises (individually or in teams) that involved the student in productive activity
    • continuing part-time work with a registered business or incorporated organisation.

  7. Can work placements undertaken by students completing a VET in Schools program also be used to fulfil the work placement requirement for Industry and Enterprise?
  8. Response:
    Yes.
