Music Group performance
The VCE Music Group performance Study Design states that students are required to perform two (2) works from the Prescribed List of Arrangements which is published annually by the VCAA.

Alternative works
Students who wish to select an arrangement other than those listed should submit a proposal to VCAA with the Alternative Works/Arrangements form for individual approval.

In requesting permission to perform an alternative works/arrangements, the applicant/s will need to:
- provide sheet music or chart (leadsheet) as appropriate
- outline grounds for the application.
Suitable grounds may include the case of groups involving ethnic specific instruments such as a balalaika trio. Such groups are still required to perform music in a variety of styles in order to meet the requirements Units 3 and 4 Outcome 1 and the criteria for the Performance examination.
Study Design Requirements
It should be noted only two works from the prescribed list are required to be performed as part of the examination program.
Study design requirements relating to the prescribed list state that students may:
- perform two works in the styles in which they are listed.
- perform one work in the style in which it is listed and another listed work in any one of the listed styles.
- perform two notated arrangements from the list.
- perform one notated arrangement from the list and another listed work in any one of the listed styles.
Application Dates
The completed application form must be submitted to VCAA on or before 6 March 2009.
Proposal for alternative arrangements must be made annually. Acceptance of a particular work/s in one year does not ensure automatic acceptance of that work/s for future years.
