Introduction

The Prescribed List of Notated Solo Works contains lists and should be used for selection of instrument and program for VCE Music Solo performance Units 3 and 4 and the Solo performance recital examination. 

In this study, 'instrument' includes voice. 

This list is only available online. It is recommended that schools, teachers and students regularly check this website for updates.

The Chief Assessor’s report for past end-of-year VCE Music Solo performance recital examinations can be found under Assessment Reports.

The VCE Music Solo performance prescribed list of ensemble works is a separate list published annually in the VCAA Bulletin and should be used to select works for study for Solo performance Units 3 and 4 Outcome 4.

2008 Prescribed List

Introduction to the 2008 edition

The 2008 Prescribed List of Notated Solo Works is for selecting student’s individual solo performance programs for Outcome 1 in Units 3 & 4: Solo performance.

This edition of the Prescribed List is for use from 1 January 2008.

The online edition of the 2008 Prescribed List of Notated Solo Works was first published in January 2005. Revisions including sample programs for all instruments were published in January 2006. Further updates for the following instruments were made in January 2007:

  • Bassoon, Clarinet – B flat soprano
  • Contemporary double bass
  • Contemporary piano
  • Double Bass
  • Euphonium – bass clef
  • Flute
  • Guitar – Classical
  • Guitar – Contemporary popular
  • Pianoforte
  • Saxophone – tenor
  • Trumpet
  • Viola
  • Violin
  • Voice – Classical and
  • Voice – Contemporary popular.

These revisions provide updated information regarding matters such as date of composition, editions, publishers, titles of works, movements and/or sections to be performed, reference recordings and/or accompaniments.

The lists as currently published should be used to confirm students’ programs for Units 3 and 4 Outcome 1 and the Solo performance recital examination for 2008.

Information about the list and the examination is also available in print format.

Notes

 

  1. Students who select double (upright) bass as their instrument may use select works from either (but not both) the Double Bass or the Contemporary Double Bass list.
  2. Students who select pianoforte as their instrument may select works from either (but not both) the Pianoforte or the Contemporary Piano list. All students enrolled in Pianoforte and Contemporary Piano will perform on an acoustic piano. Students will be given a choice of using either an upright or grand pianoforte for the Solo performance recital examination performance examination.
  3. Students who select voice as their instrument may select works from either (but not both) the Voice - Classical or the Voice - Contemporary Popular list.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority publishes administrative advice and regulations for the VCE in the VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook 2008. Changes to advice and regulations occur during the year. The details of all such changes are published in the VCAA Bulletin and VCAA Bulletin P–10 on a regular basis. It is essential that VCE teachers familiarise themselves with advice and regulations in the VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook and regularly check the VCAA Bulletin.
