As published in the VCAA Bulletin, March 2008, p.9.
Teachers are advised that
- On page 27, Unit 3: The second sentence in the second paragraph should not refer to ‘at least two independent, continuous variables’.
The sentence should read:
-
They design and carry out an extended practical investigation.
- On page 37, Unit 4, Area of Study 1, Electric power, the second dot point is incomplete.
The dot point should read:
-
calculate magnitudes, including determining the directions of, and magnetic forces on, current carrying wires, using F = nIℓB where the directions of I and B are either perpendicular or parallel to each other;
- On page 40, Unit 4 Area of Study 3, Detailed Study 3.1: Synchrotron and its applications, the equation at the end of sixth dot point in the Key Knowledge is incorrect and should be qvB = mv2/r.
The dot point should read:
-
calculate the radius of the path followed by a low-velocity electron in a magnetic field, qvB = mv2/r.
- On page 31, Unit 3, Detailed study 3.1: Einstein’s special relativity, the equation in the last dot point is incorrect and should be m = moγ.
The dot point should read:
-
explain the impossibility of motion faster than light in terms of relativistic mass m = moγ at speeds approaching c.
