VET Certificate types on VASS

Enrolment, unit completion and assessment data must be entered into VASS in accordance with the administrative requirements of the VCAA and must meet critical dates. Penalties apply for late data entry.

  • VASS = Victorian Assessment Software System

There are three VET certificate types available on VASS for enrolment:

  • VES: VCAA approved VCE VET programs that provide credit towards the VCE in the form of VCE VEt units and nominal hour credit towards the VCAL.
  • NAP: VCAA-approved School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship that provide credit towards the VCE in the form of VCE VET units and nominal hour credit towards VCAL.
  • VFE: VET or FE (Further Education) programs, outside the suite of VCAA-approved programs, that may offer Block Credit Recognition towards the VCE and nominal hour credit towards the VCAL.

Some VCAA-approved programs are available as both a VCE VET (certificate type: VES) and a School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (certificate type: NAP) qualification. However, a student may not be enrolled simultaneously in both the VES and NAP versions of the same program or within the same industry area.

For administrative purposes ALL VET certificates (VES, NAP and VFE) are deemed to be delivered by the students’ Home School regardless of who oversees the training (RTO) or where the training is conducted. This means that Home Schools are responsible for enrolling their students AND entering results.

If the VET or FE qualification is not available on VASS, schools should contact the Student Records and Results Unit at student.records@edumail.vic.gov.au for further advice or download the Application for VET or Further Education Qualifications to be added to VASS form from the VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook and send it to the VCAA accompanied by any information requested in the form.
