Building and Construction - Further Advice

Extracted from VCAA Bulletin, February 2009, page 13

The Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre Apprenticeship has been revised to include the unit VPAU349 Work safely in the construction industry. This unit is recognised by Work Safe Victoria for the registration of construction workers for occupational health and safety induction.

The unit VBQM697 Workplace safety and industry induction which formerly had a nominal hour allocation of 40 hours has been revised to 34 hours. This allows the unit VPAU349 Work safely in the construction industry to have an allocation of 6 hours.

There is no overall change to the nominal hours of the VCE VET Building and Construction program.

Construction Industry Induction cards issued in other states (NSW – White, SA – White, Qld – Blue, WA, Tas – no card at this stage) are recognised in Victoria. The major requirement is that at the time of the training the student would normally have resided in the state of issue. There is some flexibility regarding residency for students in towns on or near the Victorian border with NSW and South Australia.
