Qualifications

The following qualification is available as a VCE VET program:

  • CHC20108 Certificate II in Community Services and selected units of competence from CHC30108 Certificate III in Community Services Work and CHC30708 Certificate III in Children’s Services

The following qualification is available as a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship program:

  • CHC20108 Certificate II in Community Services Work

Note: The Units 3 and 4 sequence of VCE VET Community Services is not designed as a stand-alone study. Students are strongly advised against undertaking the Units 3 and 4 sequence without first completing Units 1 and 2.

 

Pre-apprenticeships

A pre-apprenticeship is a nationally recognised qualification that has an automatic training and duration credit into the apprenticeship in the same industry area. A pre-apprenticeship training program prepares the student for entry into an apprenticeship or traineeship by equipping the student with foundation knowledge and skills.

Formal pre-apprenticeship arrangements have been approved by Skills Victoria for:

  • CHC20108 Certificate II in Community Services

Credit in the VCE

Students who complete the CHC20108 Certificate II in Community Services and selected units of competence from CHC30108 Certificate III in Community Services Work and CHC30708 Certificate III in Children's Services are eligible for credit of up to five VCE VET units on their VCE Statement of Results: up to three units at Units 1 and 2 (depending on the electives chosen) and two units at Units 3 and 4.

Students undertaking a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship program in any of the three qualifications available, credit will be dependant upon the amount of training undertaken. Further details

ATAR Contribution

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the Units 3 and 4 sequence of VCE VET Community Services must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the primary four or as a fifth or sixth study.

Students who receive a Units 3 and 4 sequence for a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship program in Community Services may choose to undertake scored assessment or may choose to opt-out and receive a 10% increment towards their ATAR (10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies).

Scored Assessment

Students wishing to receive a study score for VCE VET Community Services must undertake scored assessment in the VCE VET Community Services program: CHC20108 Certificate II in Community Services and selected units of competence from Certificate III in Community Services Work and Certificate III in Children's Services. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66% of the overall study score and an end of year examination, worth 34% of the overall study score.

Program updates and further information

  • Continuous improvement - During the life of the CHC08 Community Services Training Package, there may be occasions when changes are made to reflect feedback from users or to include latest industry practices. This process is called continuous improvement. When continuous improvement impacts on the VCE VET Community Services program, advice will be published in the VCAA Bulletin VCE, VCAL and VET and links to these updates will be published on the VCE VET Community Services page on the VCAA website.

    • This supplement to the VCAA Bulletin contains scored assessment and examination advice for VCE VET Community Services.
  • VCE VET Assessment Guide (PDF - 486KB)
    • This Assessment Guide is for all VCE VET scored programs and contains background information relating to VCE VET study scores. It contains an overview of study score assessment, the process of integrating study scores with competency based assessment and detailed advice regarding the development and assessment of coursework tasks. The Assessment Guide also contains generic templates, scoring criteria and other coursework assessment records. Program specific assessment advice for revised VCE VET scored programs will be published annually in a supplement to the VCAA Bulletin VCE, VCAL and VET and will included on each of the webpages for VCE VET programs.

New VCE VET programs are approved from time to time and are announced in the VCAA Bulletin VCE, VCAL and VET. The details for each of these programs are published by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
