Information Technology - School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

The following qualifications from the ICA05 Information and Communications Training Package are available as School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships:

  • Option 1: ICA20105 Certificate II in Information Technology
  • Option 2: ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology

Credit in the VCE

Credit will be dependent upon the amount of training undertaken based on nominal hours.

  • Option 1: Students who complete ICA20105 Certificate II in Information Technology will receive up to three units credit toward their VCE at Units 1 and 2 level.
  • Option 2: Students who complete ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology (including the core units from ICA20105) will receive up to six units credit towards their VCE: two at Units 1 and 2 level and two Units 3 and 4 sequences. The eight core Certificate II units will provide credit at Units 1 and 2 level. The Certificate III units will provide two Units 3 and 4 sequences when a minimum of 360 hours of training has been completed.

Apprentices who do not achieve the minimum requirements for the qualification, as listed in the Training Package, will receive a Statement of Attainment from the RTO listing those competencies achieved. A record of their achievement will also appear in their Training Record Book.

Study Score

Students undertaking Option 2 may choose to undertake scored assessment for the purposes of gaining a study score. In this case, the first Units 3 and 4 sequence will be the scored sequence, and the requirements are prescribed as described in Program 2 of the VCE VET Information Technology Program Booklet (published September 2006). Students must be enrolled in the designated units of competence in a single enrolment year and comply with the rules applying to scored assessment.

An ATAR increment is available for the second Units 3 and 4 sequence.

ATAR Contribution

Students completing ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology, and not wishing access to a study score, will be eligible for two 10% increment towards their ATAR (Note: an increment is based on 10% of the average of the primary four scaled studies).
