Planning for STEM in the Victorian Curriculum

In this session for secondary school teachers, teachers will explore the place of STEM in the Victorian Curriculum F–10, focusing on the following learning areas: Science, Design and Technologies and Mathematics. Teachers will explore the importance of integrating Levels 7-10 content descriptions and achievement standards across these learning areas to create rich, authentic and challenging learning experiences for students. They will be supported in how to use curriculum materials and planning tools to design STEM experiences for the classroom. There will be opportunities to engage in hands-on learning activities, share experiences and ideas with one another, and problem-solve the challenges that teachers may face for effective implementation in secondary schools.

STEM - Exploring STEM in the Victorian Curriculum (Levels 7-10)

In this session for secondary school teachers, teachers will explore the place of STEM in the Victorian Curriculum F–10, focusing on the following learning areas: Science, Design and Technologies and Mathematics. Teachers will have opportunities to engage in hands-on learning activities, share experiences and interact with a wide variety of resources that support STEM education. In particular, they will examine the Levels 7-10 content descriptions and achievement standards across the three learning areas to draw inspiration from and be supported in how to use curriculum materials to identify appropriate outcomes to address through rich STEM activities.

In this session for secondary school teachers, participants will discuss the place of STEM in the Victorian Curriculum F-10, with an emphasis on the learning areas of Science, Design and Technologies and Mathematics, and identifying appropriate content descriptions and achievement standards for the development of STEM learning sequences. Various planning tools, strategies and learning sequences will be discussed to assist teachers to start (or continue) the conversation about STEM education within their school contexts and move beyond the silos of learning areas.
