Notice to Schools 145/2020 – 6 October 2020

New VASS Screens for Entry of 2020 Consideration of Educational Disadvantage data

Principals/Directors, VCE, VCAL and VET coordinators, VASS administrators and VCE teachers

The VCAA sent a letter to Principals yesterday detailing the implementation of Consideration of Educational Disadvantage (CED). If your Principal did not receive the letter, please contact the VCAA: vcaa@education.vic.gov.au.

A range of new screens are available on VASS to facilitate entry of CED data from Monday 5 October 2020.

The CED process requires schools to enter expected scores and expected grades for all students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequences in 2020.

For these students, expected scores and expected grades need to be entered against all graded assessments for all studies the student is undertaking.

Expected scores and expected grades do not need to be entered for:

  • VCE Units 1 and 2
  • Non-scored VET
  • VCAL Units
  • VCE Units 3 and 4 if NA is entered against all graded assessments.

New VASS Screens include:

  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage By Class Report (and teacher input sheets)
  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage By Class Entry screen
  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage By Student Report (and teacher input sheets)
  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage By School Ranking Report
  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage By School (Comparison with Previous Years) Report
  • Consideration of Educational Disadvantage School Summary Report

It is the responsibility of Assessing Schools to enter expected scores and expected grades for VCE units. For schools with students studying VCE VET through a registered training organisation (RTO) or VCE units through a private provider, it is the Home School’s responsibility to coordinate with the RTO/private provider to collect the expected scores and expected grades and enter these on VASS.

Home schools will be able to view expected scores and expected grades entered for their students if being assessed at another assessing school.

Action required

Principals/Directors should ensure their VASS administrators:

  • read the attachment and become familiar with the process to enter the Consideration of Educational Disadvantage data
  • ensure that all expected grades and expected scores are entered on VASS by the relevant due dates.
