VCE Study Designs – changes to accreditation periods and prescribed lists

Principals/Directors, VCE Coordinators and VCE teachers

To support teachers to focus on the continuity of learning in their schools, the VCAA Board and the CEO of the Victorian Regulations and Qualifications Authority have approved a 12-month extension to the accreditation periods for all accredited VCE study designs.

  • All accredited VCE study designs will be taught again unchanged in 2021. The adjusted Study Designs for 2020 are not applicable in 2021.
  • Newly reaccredited VCE study designs that were due to be delivered in schools in 2021 will be delayed by 12 months and will be delivered by schools in 2022. These VCE study designs are: Biology, Bridging English as an Additional Language, Environmental Science, Geography, History, and Languages (Chinese First Language, Classical Greek, Classical Hebrew, Indonesian First Language, Japanese First Language, Korean First Language, Latin and Vietnamese First Language).
  • VCE study designs currently under review in 2020 will now be delivered by schools in 2023 (rather than 2022).
  • VCE Bengali Units 1 and 2 will commence as an accredited study, as planned, in 2021.
  • All VCE accredited study designs and study webpages will be updated during Term 2 to reflect the extended accreditation period for the VCE study.

VCE Prescribed Lists for 2021

The VCAA Board has also approved the following arrangements for the prescribed lists for the following VCE studies.

Algorithmics (HESS)

  • The 2020 approved lists for programming language requirements and alternative methods of computation will be extended by 12 months and be the approved lists in 2020 and 2021.

Applied Computing – Data Analytics

  • The list of software tools and functions for 2020 will be extended by 12 months and be the approved list in 2020 and 2021.

Applied Computing – Software Development

  • The list of programming requirements for 2020 will be extended by 12 months and be the approved list of programming requirements in 2020 and 2021.

Chinese Language, Culture and Society

  • The 2020 prescribed texts will be extended by 12 months and be the approved prescribed texts for study in 2020 and 2021.  

Classical Greek

Classical Hebrew

  • The prescribed texts are published under the course prescriptions on the NESA website. The prescribed texts for 2021 will be as published.

Classical Studies

  • The 2020 Classical works list will be extended by 12 months and be the approved Classical works list for study in 2020 and 2021.

Dance

  • The 2020 prescribed list will be extended by 12 months and be the approved prescribed list for study in 2020 and 2021.

Drama

  • The playlist will be updated for 2021 and published in Term 4, 2020.

English and English as an Additional Language (EAL)

  • The 2020 text list will be extended by 12 months and be the approved text list for study in 2020 and 2021.
  • The published 2021 text list will be delayed by 12 months and be the approved text list for study in 2022.

Latin

  • The prescribed texts will be updated for 2021 and published in Term 4, 2020.

Literature

  • The 2020 text list will be extended by 12 months and be the approved text list for study in 2020 and 2021.
  • The published 2021 text list will be delayed by 12 months and be the approved text list for study in 2022.

Music

  • The 2020 prescribed list of group works and the prescribed list of notated solo works will be extended by 12 months and be the approved prescribed group works and the prescribed list of notated solo works in 2020 and 2021.
  • Items already marked for deletion at the end of 2020 will be removed from the prescribed lists and will not be replaced by new items in 2021.

Philosophy

  • The 2020 prescribed texts will be extended by 12 months and be the approved prescribed texts for study in 2020 and 2021.
  • Adjustments made to prescribed texts in 2020 are not applicable in 2021.

Texts and Traditions

  • The set texts, passages for special study, and themes will be updated for 2021 and published in Term 4, 2020.

Theatre Studies

  • The playlist will be updated for 2021 and published in Term 4, 2020.

Action required

Principals and Directors should ensure that VCE Coordinators, heads of learning areas, VCE teachers and other relevant school staff are made aware of the changes to VCE study design accreditation periods and VCE prescribed lists.
