Terms of Use
In order to access the assessments, the Principal (You) must agree to adhere to the following Terms of Use. The Terms of Use set out terms regarding use of the DAL including assessments and reports, data collection and privacy.
A. Terms of Use Communication.
- You must ensure all School Staff (including teachers and administrative staff) in your School whom You allow to utilise the DAL read, understand and comply with these Terms of Use.
- You must ensure that School Staff make parents/carers aware of:
- how your School will be using the DAL
- which students/classes will complete assessments on the DAL
- how results will be used and conveyed (if appropriate)
- You must inform parents/carers and students about how student personal information will be collected and handled in the DAL and You shall do so by providing a copy of the Parent Information Letter available on the Platform.
- You must ensure that the VCAA is notified if there are any issues or faults experienced with the DAL, including the assessments and Platform functionality.
B. Administration.
To ensure effective use of the DAL, You must ensure that School Staff adhere to the instructions and supporting materials provided by the VCAA. If unsure of any aspects of these documents, clarification should be sought from the VCAA.
- You are responsible for identifying suitable School Staff to be assigned the role of ‘School Administrator’ on the Platform. These School Staff will be responsible for granting access to classes of students to additional staff, creating and managing custom classes. If such a person is not available, You may carry out this function.
- You carry the responsibility of assigning and, where appropriate, reassigning the School Administrator role (or roles, if you assign the role of School Administrator to more than one of the School Staff).
- You must ensure that School Staff review the assessments available to determine whether they are appropriate for specific students/classes. None of the assessments are compulsory.
- You will ensure that School Staff administer assessments.
- You will ensure that School Staff mark any assessments which are not marked automatically by the Platform.
C. Data Collection and Storage.
- You acknowledge that the Platform collects and stores staff and student personal information required for administrating assessments and You will ensure that School Staff have read the VCAA’s DAL Collection Notice.
- You will also ensure that the collection and storage of all personal information collected for and stored on the Platform is collected and stored in a way that complies with your own school privacy policies or any privacy requirements imposed by legislation which are applicable to your school.
- You will ensure that your school maintains accurate records of students and School Staff in order for assessments to be administered correctly within the Platform.
- You will ensure that School Staff do not facilitate access to the Platform to anyone other than School Staff or students at your school.
D. Reporting.
- You will ensure that School Staff responsible for the provision of any results do not provide results that identify an individual student unless they are for:
- the student who undertook the test,
- the parent/carer of the student, or
- School Staff.
E. Copyright Notice.
DAL content is © Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, 2025. You and all School Staff will be provided with access to items in the DAL for the purpose of assessment. Third-parties own copyright in some items within the DAL, as indicated. Except as permitted by the Copyright Act, You and all School Staff must not copy or re-use third-party DAL items for any other purpose. Re-use of third-party items outside instances of assessment may require reporting in compliance with Part IVA (Division 4) of the Copyright Act.
