Resit the literacy and numeracy assessment
This page is for students who have completed their senior secondary studies in 2025 and did not meet one or more of the literacy and numeracy standards tested in Section A of the GAT or were absent on the day of the test.
You have the option to sit the literacy and numeracy assessment again on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
Resitting the test is an opportunity to demonstrate you are ready for your next pathway, including education, training or employment.
Register your interest by Monday 2 February 2026.
Must knows
- Resitting the literacy and numeracy assessment is only available if you did not meet one or more of the Victorian standards or were unable to sit Section A of the 2025 GAT
- You only need to resit the standards you did not meet in 2025
- Your literacy and numeracy assessment results will not affect your 2025 VCE, VCE VM or VPC results
- A GAT Statement of Results will be reissued showing your revised literacy and numeracy assessment results
- If you are continuing your senior secondary studies in 2026 and did not meet one or more of the literacy and numeracy standards, you are not eligible to resit. You will have another chance to undertake the literacy and numeracy assessment as part of the GAT on Tuesday 16 June 2026
Literacy and numeracy support
There are a range of options available to help you improve your skills. These options include bridging courses that can help you start your training journey at a TAFE in Victoria.
If you're interested in undertaking training at a TAFE or training provider, go to Connecting People with Skills for more information. This website includes access to the Victorian Skills Gateway, an online resource where you can learn about occupations, career pathways and training courses available. Many of these courses are free or low fee under the Free TAFE initiative.
