VCE on a Northern Hemisphere Timetable - English and English as an Additional Language

The VCE on a Northern Hemisphere Timetable (NHT) operates from July to June. Only authorised providers may offer VCE English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) on the Northern Hemisphere Timetable.

The reaccredited English and English as an Additional Language study design has a staged implementation, with Units 1 and 2 being implemented in 2023-2024 NHT and Units 3 and 4 being implemented in 2024-2025 NHT.

For 2023-2024 NHT please ensure you use the correct study design as listed below.

 

Units 1 and 2

Accreditation period for Units 1 and 2: 2023-2027 (NHT July 2023 – June 2028)

Study Design for Units 1 and 2 in 2023-2024 NHT

The accreditation period for Units 1 and 2 expires for the NHT on 30 June 2028.

The accreditation period for Units 3 and 4 commences for the NHT on 1 July 2024 and expires for the NHT on 30 June 2028. Please use the English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Units 3 and 4: 2017-2023 study design in 2023-2024 NHT.

This study design is to be used for Units 1 and 2 only in 2023-2024 NHT.

The accreditation period for Units 1 and 2 expired for the NHT on 30 June 2023. Please use the English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Units 1 and 2: 2023-2027 (NHT July 2023 – June 2028) study design in 2023-2024 NHT.

The accreditation period for Units 3 and 4 has been extended to 31 December 2023 and expires for the NHT on 30 June 2024..

Eligibility criteria for students seeking English as Additional Language (EAL) Status

Students who are unfamiliar with the English language because they are from non-English-speaking backgrounds or who are deaf or hard of hearing may have access to English as an Additional Language (EAL) status. For eligibility criteria please refer to the VCE and VCAL Administrative HandbookAdministrative information: Student enrolment, Students seeking EAL status.

To apply for EAL status, each student is required to submit an Application for Enrolment in English as an Additional Language Units 3 and 4 form to the school, please see the enrolment application form.
