winners of the 2022 Board Appreciation Award

We are pleased to announce the 2 winners of this year’s VCE Season of Excellence Board Appreciation Award:

  • Bronte Wiggins from Overnewton Anglican Community College for her VCE VET Product Design and Technology work, Hybrid lamp/planter
  • Jordyn Bower from Epping Secondary College for her VCE Studio Arts work, Unattainable series

Bronte’s work was featured in Top Designs at Melbourne Museum. In researching and identifying the needs of the end-user, the idea occurred to her that she could merge a planter with another piece of furniture to create a multi-functional product. The design has a seamless, sophisticated look, created with complex joining geometry.

Jordyn’s pencil on paper series was exhibited in Top Arts at the Ian Potter Centre, NGV. Her work explores repression and her experience of feeling detached from her own emotions. As a very intimate and personal work, creating this series became a process of healing.

The Board Appreciation Award recognises innovative student work from the VCE Season of Excellence. The winners each receive a $1000 prize and certificate for their efforts.

Congratulations also goes to Koko Crozier from Methodist Ladies’ College, whose horror film Hereafter won this year’s People’s Choice Award for Top Screen.

Receiving the highest number of votes from the audience poll, Koko’s VCE Media product was inspired by the films of James Wan, Ari Aster and Jordan Peele. It also drew inspiration from her recent experience of grief to provide an allegorical commentary on death.

‘In making this film, I hoped to create a cinematic experience that both satisfies and challenges the audience’s expectations,’ said Koko. ‘I aimed to instill a sense of hope and beauty into the notion of death.’
