For the first time, the 2026 VCE Season of Excellence is bringing Top Screen to Geelong Arts Centre (GAC) on Monday 11 May.

Top Screen gives you a unique opportunity to view the work of Victoria’s next generation of filmmakers. Following the screening will be a discussion with some of the 2026 filmmakers about their creative processes in making their short films.

To celebrate the achievements of Top Screen’s regional filmmakers, we chatted to Sacred Heart College Kyneton 2025 graduate Thomas Corboy about his comedy action film, A Disagreement.

A Disagreement tells the story of two brothers fighting over the last cookie in a cookie jar. What starts as an argument soon escalates into an all-out battle that grows to ridiculous extremes.

My brother and I have been making movies with each other ever since we were little, and I've always known I wanted to make a good fight scene with the both of us,” Thomas reveals.

“From that, the concept and narrative grew, exploring the futility of conflict and sibling rivalry – but at its core, the film is created out of love and a passion for collaborating with my brother.”

“Being chosen for Top Screen feels surreal. To me, it shows how with enough time, practice and dedication, any project can hit the mark you aim for.”

Watch Thomas’ work, alongside 14 standout student films and animations, at Top Screen, screening at ACMI from Tuesday 17 March to Tuesday 5 May and Geelong Arts Centre on Monday 11 May.

As part of the Top Screen program, you can join Meet The Filmmakers programs to gain valuable perspectives and inspiration for current VCE Media students.
