VCE and VPC Audit

Overview

Schools that deliver the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), including the Vocational Major (VM), and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) must ensure the integrity of student assessments and ensure compliance with the standards and requirements of the VCAA for the relevant assessment program.

For the VCE, including the VCE VM, the requirements are stated in the VCE study designs and the VCE Administrative Handbook.

For the VPC, the requirements are stated in the VPC curriculum designs and the VPC Administrative Handbook.

The VCAA conducts an annual audit of the VCE and VPC to assess compliance with these requirements.

From 2026, VCAA will implement a two-part audit program for all VCE and VPC providers. The first part of the audit program is the Administrative Audit, which will occur in Term 2.

The second part of the audit will cover the delivery of VCE studies, including VCE VM and VCE VET scored programs, and VPC studies and will occur in Term 4.

The purpose of the audit is to help protect the integrity and results of the VCE and VPC by checking that VCAA standards and requirements are being met. All VCE and VPC studies are subject to audit.

Administrative Audit

The VCE and VPC Administrative Audit will commence on 21 April 2026.

All VCE and VPC providers (excluding first-year providers) will be asked to submit selected school policy and administrative documents. These will be checked for alignment with the requirements set out in the VCE Administrative Handbook and/or the VPC Administrative Handbook.

Submissions to the VCE and VPC Administrative Audit must be made using the online audit submission form, which can be accessed via https://surveys.vcaa.vic.edu.au/n/keZfWyv

Evidence requirements and expectations are set out in

Schools are strongly advised to ensure that their policies and procedures are in line with the requirements stated in the VCE/VPC Administrative Handbook prior to submission to VCE and VPC Administrative Audit.

Subject Audit

The Subject Audit focuses on key aspects of the delivery and assessment of VCE and VPC studies and is focused on supporting quality and consistency across providers.

The VCE and VPC Subject Audit will commence in Term 4. This timing is designed to ensure providers have finished the delivery of academic programs and have the required documentation available for submission during the Term 4 audit period.

The 2026 audit program is designed to be a ‘light-touch’ program to support schools to prepare for the new audit program and reduce administrative burden. In 2026, all VCE and VPC providers will be asked to submit selected documentation for:

  • one nominated outcome for the selected VCE unit/s
  • the selected VCE VET scored program
  • one nominated module for the selected VPC unit

For 2026, VCE and VPC Providers will need to submit:

  • a copy of the information provided to students outlining the set work required for the selected study, unit and outcome or units of competency
  • assessment task/s for the selected study, unit and outcome
  • the assessment tool/s used to assess the selected assessment task/s (e.g. marking guide, assessment rubric or criteria)

Each provider will be audited for at least:

  • one VCE (including scored VCE VET) study or 5% of the VCE studies offered by the provider (if greater than 30 studies are offered by a provider)
  • one VPC study (where VPC is delivered)

Audit outcomes will be provided in the week prior to the start of the next school year.
