VCE VM and VPC Curriculum and Assessment Audit

Overview

Senior secondary education providers (including schools and non-school providers) must deliver VCE Vocational Major (VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) studies according to the requirements established by the VCAA.

For the VCE VM, the requirements are stated in the VCE VM study designs, the VCE assessment principles and the VCE Administrative Handbook.

For the VPC, the requirements are stated in the VPC curriculum designs, the VPC assessment principles and the VPC Administrative Handbook.

Each year, the VCAA conducts a sample audit of providers that deliver the VCE VM and the VPC to assess providers’ compliance with these requirements. The audit provides an opportunity for providers to discuss with the VCAA any implementation issues or challenges. It also provides insight into the implementation of VCE VM and VPC studies at a point in time to enable improvement

Key dates

  • Wednesday 28 May: VCE VM and VPC studies for audit published on VASS. Online audit questionnaires open.
  • Monday 2 June: Receipt of audit selection due in VASS.
  • Thursday 5 June: VCE VM and VPC Curriculum and Assessment Audit webinar.
  • Friday 27 June: Audit submissions due.
  • Tuesday 26 August: Audit outcomes published on VASS. Further evidence submissions open.
  • Monday 8 September: Further evidence submissions due from providers.
  • Tuesday 14 October: Further evidence outcomes published on VASS.

The 2025 audit will commence on Wednesday 28 May.

On this date the VCAA will:

  • identify providers selected for audit in a VCE VM or VPC study via VASS
  • email providers of VCE VM and VPC studies to notify them that the audit has commenced, with instructions on:
    • how to identify studies selected for audit in VASS
    • the audit preparation and submission process.

The VCAA randomly selects 10% of providers with enrolments in each VCE VM and VPC study for audit. Providers that are not identified in VASS for audit in a VCE VM or VPC study for 2025 will not be required to undertake a VCE VM or VPC audit this year.

Selected providers will be audited for Units 1 and 2 or Units 3 and 4 in one VCE VM or VPC study.

Each audit submission must address the following elements for the applicable units:

  • the curriculum and assessment plan
  • one assessment task.

The VCE VM and VPC Curriculum and Assessment Audit consists of two stages:

Stage 1: Audited providers complete an online study-specific audit questionnaire. Links to the study-specific audit questionnaires are provided on this page (see below).

Stage 2: Providers whose audit submissions do not meet minimum requirements following Stage 1 are required to submit further evidence. Providers whose further evidence submissions do not meet minimum requirements following Stage 2 will be re-audited for the same units in the following year.

Audit submissions are assessed by State Reviewers appointed by the VCAA.

For a visual representation of this process see the VCE VM and VPC Curriculum and Assessment Audit process diagram.

Audited providers must upload to the online audit questionnaire their curriculum and assessment plan and one assessment task for the audited units as documentary evidence to support their audit submission.

Please note:

  • Providers do not need to develop new documentation for their audit submission or submit evidence using a particular template or format. Providers should submit a current curriculum and assessment plan and assessment task as they are currently being used.
  • The assessment task should be in the same format in which it was provided to students. It should include evidence of the method used for determining whether students have met the requirements of the task. Assessment tasks submitted for audit must not include examples of student work.
  • Providers that use a portfolio of evidence to determine achievement of a VPC module or VCE VM outcome may upload an example of assessable coursework as assessment task evidence.
  • Providers that have not yet finalised their planning for both audited units should note this when completing the questionnaire.
  • Documentation for the curriculum and assessment plan must be collated into a single PDF file. Documentation for the assessment task must be collated into a separate single PDF file.
