Notice to Schools 76/2020 – 17 June 2020
Focus of VCE Food Studies Unit 4
Principals/Directors, VCE Coordinators and VCE Food Studies teachers
The focus of VCE Food Studies Unit 4 – Food issues, challenges and futures – is on Australia’s role in a global food system.
Students need to understand Australia’s role within a global food system, focussing on content related to Australia’s food system. This includes, for example, the application of Australian research and development about food production and how this expertise contributes, or could potentially contribute, to the diets of people overseas.
The Unit 4 ethical principles and questions of concern should relate to Australian food consumers. Also, the environmental sustainability issues and the environmental effects studied should relate to the Australian food system.
Principals/Directors should ensure that teachers are aware that the focus of VCE Food Studies Unit 4 is on Australia’s role in a global food system.
