Unit 2 - Area of Study 2: Producing and evaluating within a team

Outcome 2

Justify, manage and use appropriate production processes to make a product safely and evaluate individually and as a member of a team, the processes and materials used and the suitability of a product or components of a group product/s against the design brief.

Examples of learning activities

  • Demonstrate safe production techniques using tools, equipment, machines and materials to make the specified product and show how they are following the scheduled production plans.
  • Demonstrate safe use of tools, equipment, machines and materials. Alternatively, develop a multimedia presentation to share with the class to demonstrate safe use of tools, equipment, machines and materials.
  • Record all the steps of the production process in the scheduled production plan using manual and digital methods. Use digital devices, for example mobile phones, to capture visual evidence of each step.
  • Use social media (Instagram or a Facebook page set up specifically for the task) to capture and share progress throughout production. This evidence can be presented as part of their record of production.
  • Record their evaluation of the group’s product/s as a solution to the design brief using pre-determined criteria. Students could record their evaluation using their mobile phone, iPad or another digital device. The evaluation should include:
    • whether the product meets the requirements outlined in the design brief
    • how the historical and/or cultural movement or style influenced and enhanced the design
    • the degree to which user-centred design factors and social, economic and environmental sustainability factors were considered in the design.
  • Students observe and give feedback to each member of their team and suggest possible improvements during production.
  • After production is completed, ask students to do a five minute presentation of their finished product/s to an audience of end-user/s or class members.  Students explain how the product meets the design brief and receive feedback and possible improvements to the design or production of the product from the audience.

Detailed example

Providing feedback to members of team

Provide feedback to each member of the team and suggest possible improvements in each lesson during production by completing the table below. Your observations can include photos and/or written comments.
