Foundation–10 Curriculum

Calling teachers of Civics and Citizenship: we need you!

The VCAA is looking for experienced teachers with interest and expertise in Civics and Citizenship, who are keen to develop a new unit of learning or sequence of lessons that aligns to the Victorian Curriculum. This unit of learning or sequence of lessons would include all the teaching resources, assessment strategies and practical advice for teachers.

The aim is to develop and share high quality resources that will support teachers to implement the Victorian Curriculum F–10.

The VCAA is looking for teachers across Year 3 to Year 10 from government, Catholic and independent schools.

If you are interested, you can find additional information and the process for submitting an Expression of Interest on the Civics and Citizenship curriculum webpage.

Who's in the room? Get a snapshot of the language learners in your classroom

It's that time of year again – specialist classes are confirmed, rooms are organised, the new year starts in earnest, and language teachers anticipate the breadth and depth of language capabilities in their new class.

Experienced language teachers have techniques and experience to guide their selection of topics to use with the Victorian Curriculum; newer teachers delve into their recent training. It's also a great time to grab a snapshot of the learners in the room – a diagnostic in Term 1 and a diagnostic in Term 3 can yield valuable insights.

With the start of the new school year, you could use the suite of free, online language assessments the VCAA has developed with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to gain a snapshot of students' second language reading and listening skills, from levels 5–6 onward.

Offered in Chinese (background and second language learner), French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish, the language assessments are:

  • a resource schools may choose to use to support their teaching of Languages from levels 5–6 onward in the F–10 or 7–10 sequences
  • a useful diagnostic tool of student progress in listening and reading
  • an online bank of test items available anytime
  • capable of providing results immediately.

Results are for teachers' use only and are not kept nor reported to anyone else.

The language assessments are available now at no cost to all Victorian schools, including community language schools. For more information, go to the VCAA F–10 curriculum resources webpage.

To register and access the language assessments directly, go to the VCAA Language Assessment webpage on ACER's website.

Bushfire education resources

Looking for quality bushfire education resources? The Bushfire Education website provides teaching and learning resources to support bushfire education in early childhood settings and schools.

Developed by the VCAA with support from the Country Fire Authority, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Emergency Management Australia, the Bushfire Education website provides free teaching and learning resources aligned to Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) Learning and Development Outcomes and the Victorian Curriculum F–10.

The resources are structured around the four themes of Learning about bushfires, Preparing for bushfires, Responding to bushfires, and Recovering from bushfires.

Each theme is explored through a series of sequenced lesson plans that include a specific learning intention, and are linked to the relevant VEYLDF Learning and Development Outcome or curriculum areas. The lesson plans are easy to download, practical and include all the resources that you will need to undertake the learning activities.

For more information about the Bushfire Education website, please contact either the Early Years Unit: veyldf@edumail.vic.gov.au or Victorian Curriculum F–10 Unit: vcaa.f10.curriculum@edumail.vic.gov.au.
